Now that The Voice is over ..

So what is everyone watching on TV now?

How many of you watched the "Call the Midwife" Christmas special last night? What did you think of their mission to the Outer Hebrides? Pretty isolated, wasn't it?

Did anyone watch Lucy Worlsley's "12 Days of Tudor Christmas"? I watched; she can be very funny at times, and it's fascinating to learn how people lived 500 years ago!

I watched both shows, and really enjoyed them.

I read something that 'Midwife'  was inspired by a real nurse who went to the Outer Hebrides. It was extremely isolated, and known for getting the gale force storms across the islands especially during winter. I wondered if they actually filmed there in spring or summer when the weather would have been a bit milder.

I thought it was interesting that the show brought out differences between the two religious groups (Presbyterians and Anglicans). The Presbyterians of the Hebrides still considered Christmas trees a pagan ritual, as Christmas trees were actually 'adopted' from the pagans back in medieval Europe.

I also thought 12 Days of Tudor Christmas was an interesting show. I knew that the term originated in medieval times, but didn't know anything about the celebrations. The Tudors were known for extravagance, and they certainly made good on it with this one!

Looking forward to the the new Masterpiece: Sanditon.
