What cuts to Medicare?
The budget proposal gives ONLY another optional private coverage CHOICE to seniors of how they get their coverage - everything else remains the same.
The only change to Social Security is to prevent those who are drawing their Old Age benefit and still working will not qualify for unemployment benefits.
Do you not think that employers think about this in the back of their mind when an elderly person is applying for a job?
Plus if less than FRA, the SS benefit is reduced by other income, counting unemployment benefits.
Many states already reduce any unemployment benefit if the receipient is already drawing Social Security old age benefit.
Taxation, state and / or federal, overall or just on their Social Security benefit, can also affect them adversely.
To me, it seems like drawing an old age Social Security insurance benefit and Unemployment insurance benefit at the same time is an oxymoron.
Which came 1st the chicken or the egg - filing early for an old age benefit is not a decision to be taken lightly because it will continue to reduce the benefit for the rest of a person's life and after is there is a widow benefit paid.
If a person of Social Security old age, early or not, is laid off and begins drawing an unemployment insurance benefit, if they apply and receive their Social Security old age benefit - the unemployment should be stopped.
