My husband is a teacher and did not pay into SS for his 36 years however he will reach the minimum of 40 credits and 11 years through other jobs. Is there a minimum SS benefit regardless of anything else since he has the 40 credits and 11 years satisfied? Just trying to get an idea of what payment will be. He will have the 40 credits and 11 years beginning of next year.
Thank you.
@JohnW486908 There is a minimum SS benefit table at the SS website. I will try to copy and paste the link https://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/smt.cgi For 11 years, it appears to be $45.50 per month. However, depending on the amount of SS covered earnings during those 11 years, the SS benefit may be greater than $45.50. Remember, the SS benefit formula develops your Average Indexed Monthly Earnings (AIME) using 35 years (420 months). It appears that zeroes ($0.00) will be "averaged in" for 24 years. Also, take a look at the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) at the SS website.
