If Trump raise the eligible Social Security to age of 70, Spouse Benefit will no longer be an option

The following article has a point on when to get your SSI Benefit for aging working folks who anticipate retirement at age 66:

 

Trump's budget director, Mick Mulvaney, supports raising the eligibility age for receiving those benefits to age 70 ....

Social Security has a financial problem so something has to change and there are only a few ways to do it.

  • Increase revenues
  • reduce benefits in some manner
  • a combination of both

The Full Retirement Age is already approaching 67 because of the changes made with the 1983 Social Security Amendment passed to save the program back then.

 

Even if another few years were added on to FRA in the next 30 - 40 years, Spousal benefits would be the same as they are now just with a different FRA for the primary beneficiary.
