What happened to Biden's campaign promise to increase all Social Security recipients monthly payments by $200 during the pandemic? This matter isn't even being discussed. Seniors living on minimal income are always forgotten. Where is AARP on this? They are including $300 per month per
kid checks for incomes up to $150,000. and once again seniors are left with nothing. We need to hold him accountable for this promise this should have been one of the top priorities for this administration.
Seniors have had a lifetime to make plans for their retirement years. Is it a big surprise to anybody that prices go up for most all things needed for living - food, shelter, transportation, health care, etc.
Let's see, if we add up all the Covid Pandemic stimulus money for those eligible - $ 1200, $ 600, $ 1400 - that's $ 3200 that most seniors got on top of their SS benefit in a years time - from April 2020 - April 2021. Twice that if married.
While it is true that if something is not done to shore up the Social Security Trust Fund for a variety of reasons, come about 2034, we will all be taking a cut in benefits to the tune of about 20% - that's in the SS law based on the financial strength of the program. Every year for at least the last 8 - 10 years, the SS Trustee's annual report has ended with the same EXACT quote:
Lawmakers have many policy options that would reduce or eliminate the long-term financing shortfalls in Social Security and Medicare. Lawmakers should address these financial challenges as soon as possible. Taking action sooner rather than later will permit consideration of a broader range of solutions and provide more time to phase in changes so that the public has adequate time to prepare.
Lawmakers should address the financial challenges facing Social Security and Medicare as soon as possible. Taking action sooner rather than later will permit consideration of a broader range of solutions and provide more time to phase in changes so that the public has adequate time to prepare.
You know...this is a stupid statement and being a newbie, you might just be a robot too. But what an insane statement with no facts to back/support it. Statements like this are what makes the internet a poor place to find information
Nobody at AARP is looking at the Elephant in the room. How many Seniors will not be able to afford an apartment as Greedy Landlords grab up that minimum wage increase with rent increases? My 1 bedroom in Tucson is has gone up $100/mo each of the past 2 years and renewals are going up $200/month, After 7 years,I have to find a cheaper place. I can't afford $950
