I know I'm only one person but I've had Consumer Cellular for 4 years and no problems so far. Have a cheap MotoG smartphone. Then again, I'm not on the phone 24/7 and I live near a metropolitan area with loads of cell towers. Maybe rural areas don't do well with CC? They really were my cheapest option. Hope you find a good carrier!

To whom must I speak to understand why Consumer Cellular, so heavily marketed by AARP, does not seem to maintain MMS capability for my Moto G 5.1 cell phones.  Problem began about 4-5 months ago (verified by history log at CC) on my phone first but now on my wife's phone.  Nearly every week we need to call and waste hours either in queue or talking/chatting with a technical support person who resets things for us until about a week or so later.  Sounds like CC does quite frequent system updates which exclude sensitivity to the Moto G 5.1.  No MMS is not acceptable to most subscribers but particularly the AARP members who have family and friends scattered globally and need MMS to keep informed.  No one seems to know what the problem is but only that our records show there is a problem.  Let's get AARP involved in behalf of its members!

Consumer Cellular never could get files downloaded to my phone in two years.  Consumer Cellular have been experience "unusually high call volumes" since at least 2014.  I never was able to transact any business with them in less than half an hour.  When I switched to Metro PCS I instantly saved $8/month and got an improvement in service as well.  When I did switch Consumer Cellular started telling my my account was overdue before sending my final bill.  When I had a question, they took 45 days to respond with an answer.

The fact that AARP drives unsuspecting members to Consumer Cellular brings the integrity of AARP into question for me.

It was nigh unto impossible to get out of a "no contract" relationship with Consumer Cellular after discovering I had very bad service at my home.  Their Customer service was the worst I have ever experienced with up to 2 hour wait times (and then calls bumping off while I listened to recordings of their claim to being rated best for customer service in the US....).  Hoping to save money on my cell phone service, I ended up spending way too much in money and frustration...... and after purchasing a $200 phone, they refused to unlock it until I had 6 months of service with them.  The drama continues and my only recourse is to steer others from engaging with them!

If you google the company name plus "senior" and "scam" you'll find lots and lots of complaints. Yelp reviews are also terrible.  My elderly mother found it impossible to cancel - she would call to cancel her service, get another month's bill, call again to cancel, yet be billed again, etc.  Eventually she stopped paying and they turned her in to a collection agency.

I have been using Consumer Cellular for nearly two years and am extremely happy with it. So far, I have gotten excellent service and pay less than anyone else I know. I like that they let you switch the number of calls, texts, etc. at any point during the billing cycle and also alert you when you are nearing your max so that you can cut down and having to upgrade.

It is disappointing to hear that others have not been as well served as I have by Consumer Cellular.

Consumer Reports rated their customer service very highly. Apparently this is all very subjective.

Have to agree with @ASTRAEA on this one.

My wife and I are not big cell phone users. We WERE going to use them as our house phone but for some reason, even though there are 5 towers within 2 miles of us, we seem to be in a dead zone, one bar at best at home. Doesn't matter what cell company we are with either, tried several.

So we use the phones only when we are "out and about" like to find each other in a mall and such. We also use them regularly when on vacation.

We aren't too much for technology either; still have flip phones, I am embarrassed to say.

So we were looking for something cheap. Consumer Cellular is cheap and, other than at our house, has excellent coverage, good reception(even through the mountains of West Virginia), and I don't know about others, but every time I have called customer service, there was almost no hold time, my questions were answered succinctly and they were very polite.

And I will tell you this, I am giving them a positive review even though I am a chronic complainer, so they must be doing something right.

Amen, I now have cell and home phone for a fraction of what i was paying before and I have had no problem with the service or the phones. Plus they give discounts monthly and upgrade for free.

The price may be good but tech support is questionable. Last night in the middle of a family emergency my phone displayed ' No Sevice'. Turns out they shut the doors and turn out the lights at the end of their business day. There is no one to help you at night. Their web site does not offer outage reports or any other support help. I have other ways to communiate but was greatly

inconvenienced by this issue. I can't imagine how frustrating this would be to a fellow senior with few or no other ways to communicate in an emergency
