Start contacting a few lawyers and make sure they specialize in Federal benefits.  See what the lawyers think.

Social Security overpayment letter

Message 2 of 2

After 47 years I received a letter from SS regarding an "overpayment" made to my father on my behalf saying that I have to reimburse SS for said overpayement!!!!  Are you kidding me...I was a minor at the time, money was not given to me personally nor was I the one who initially requested the death benefit.  I'm now learning that this is an accepted practice of SS with little to no recourse.  Anyone else a victim of this practice perpetuated by Social Security Admn.?
