MULTIYEAR NETFLIX SCAM ENABLED BY BB&T BANK BY HONORING FRAUDULENT CHARGES ON EXPIRED DEBIT CARD
My wife's debit card was charged for a fraudulent Netflix account over a 4 year period (July 2013-Sept 2017). The fraudulent charges came out at a different time of the month than did our legitimate Netflix charges, and were very difficult to pick out on the multi-page, single spaced bank statements. We were foolish not to notice them and take responsibility, yet BB and T advertises debit card protection so we filed a claim with the fraud division. They proved to be extremely dysfunctional and difficult to deal with, and we had to re-submit the claim several times, even getting our local branch manager involved in re-submitting the multi-year claim after we received repeated form letters which consistently had the dates and amounts wrong and wrongly claimed the charges had been authorized. Finally, we reached a supervisor in the fraud division who told us that for charges that come out automatically each month, they were only liable for 3 months' worth due to a law he called Regulation E, which says that it is our responsibility to check the statements. Thus, we finally understood the $24 reimbursement we received on our $410 claim. HOWEVER, what we want people to know is that BB and T KEPT HONORING THE FRAUDULENT NETFLIX CHARGES FOR 4 YEARS, EVEN THOUGH THE DEBIT CARD EXPIRED SEVERAL TIMES DURING THAT PERIOD. YES, we learned that the default now is that they will KEEP PAYING recurring monthly charges charged to an EXPIRED debit card until someone cancels them. While some businesses, such as our newspaper, will call to get the new expiration date and 3 digit code when the card expires, BB and T DOES NOT. AND, they make it difficult to opt out of this policy- you must call them to request it, and then be issued a new debit card with a different number. I asked the supervisor if, in light of this, he could please check with higher-ups in BB and T to give us additional consideration of our claim. As of today (1-21-18) he has never answered us or returned our repeated emails.
This is a very nice move as by this users register and then take privileges of the free trail using these expired debit cards. Users should keep in view that if they don't wanna pay the can also use free apps like Kodi media player instead of Netflix, why cheat.
