Gift Card Scam

Message 1 of 1

I purchased 2 Acdemy Sports Gift Cards worth $300.00 from a person on Craigslist . He was advertizing he was hurting for cash and would sell them both for $225.00. We met at the Acdemy Sports store and the clerk advised that there was in fact $300 on the cards.  I left with the intention of checking prises on the item I wanted to buy at Acdemy Sports. When I returned the next day to purchase my item, I was told there was no money left on either card. When I asked the Manager what had happened he showed me the back of both cards and the scratch off number had been revealed.  He stated that with this number you can place an order over the phone, which is most likely what happened.
