Apple Invoice Scam?

I received an e-mail allegedly from Apple Support that asked me to confirm the purchase of an online app that I did not order.  The invoice looked legit but I clicked on the sender and a bunch of what seemed like encrypted ID showed up.  I deleted the e-mail.  Did I do the right thing?  Is there a way to contact Apple directly to determine whether my Apple account has been compromised?  I don't want to talk to a foreign geek that may not be legitimate.

I've been getting these almost daily.  It's a scam,  and best to delete them.  You did the right thing.
