AARP Mastercard in 2025-poor customer service/poor fraud protection

I used my Barclays AARP Mastercard to purchase a pair of boots from an online vendor which claimed to be located in North Carolina. Turns out it ships product from china. the boots arrived after many weeks, and were of extremely poor quality. Despite a stated return policy, there was no address to which items could be sent and the vendor's customer service rep refused to provide a refund - merely an exchange.
AARP Mastercard customer service initially credited the amount, but then required me to produce extensive documentation to verify the problem (which I did) and subsequently just put the charge back on my account, basically rewarding a fraudulent site.

I will be cancelling my Barclays mastercard - they do NOT have my back!

Iโ€™m sorry that happened.  Reputable retail companies will work with a customer.  Did you read their return policy ahead of purchase?  If they stated no refunds or exchange only, then those were their terms.

You received a chargeback on your card by the cc company.  You can contact your stateโ€™s Attorney General or FTC to complain about the retail company.

Good luck with your situation, glad you got a chargeback, though.
