And since we were on the subject of Rock Concerts,

how many remember the Summer Jam at Watkins

Glen  NY  in 1973-  More than 600,000 people

descended upon a small village in the Finger Lakes

Region of upstate NY.

It received a Guinness Book World Record for the

largest audience at a pop festival.  Watkins Gen

is noted for their international speed way.  That

is where the concert was held.  There was onlyy

3 bands on the list.  The Allman Brothers band,

The Grateful Dead, and  The Band.. And of course,

like "Woodstock", it did rain there too. (Next concert

you go to, may I suggest raingear  :-)  )

There has not been a Rock Concert like these two

since I can remember. (I could have a memory skip).

I also did not make it to that one.  And I lived with

1 hour driving distance.  Again like Woodstock, traffic

was jammed up for many, many, miles.

PEACE

Thank you for sharing your memories!!    Concerts are a mainstay of the music world : )

I did go to Bethel NY a few years ago and walked on

the grounds where the spectators where.  I can't imagine

hundreds of thousands of people there.   I looked around

and could feel the music in the air.  I asked a ground's

keeper what is it like today when they have concert series

there.  He told me it was a different crowd back in 1969..

Peace, love, (and a lot of drugs).  But it was very friendly

and smiles abound.   Today it is achool and beer and a lot

of rowdyness. (There are still drugs)....Times have changed".

The museum is a MUST to see.  All the artifacts, customs,

musical equipment, pictures, movies, and a BUS. That

brought back memories !

I plan on making another road trip to Bethel NY in 2019.

50 years and still strong.  I recommend that everlyone put

this on there 'bucket list'.......

PEACE

Great suggestion!!  Thanks for sharing!!

I wish I could say that I was at Woodstock and share my memories but sadly I missed one of the biggest music events of my lifetime.  It will always be a big one on my list of regrets.

My youngest sister tried to get my mother to let her go with some older friends .. she was 11  LOL but my mom was not having that so she missed it too.

Seeing the live performances.. Janis and Jimmy  Joe Cocker ...

Three days that changed a generation and what Time magazine called "the greatest peaceful event in history."

Woodstock kicked off 48 years ago today. Look back at our 1969 feature on the festival: http://rol.st/2vy0tQU
