Woodstock at 50, Two Celebrations, Who will be there?

Rolling Stone looks at two concerts that have been announced to celebrate the 50th anniversary year of Woodstock. Organizers are still working on the band schedules, and they have yet to make any announcements, but have promised both new and legacy acts to be included in the line-ups.

The Two Woodstock Anniversary Fests: What Legacy Acts Might Return?

Michael Lang has promised “legacy acts” for Woodstock 50, but what groups from the original festival could he be talking about?

The Woodstock festival has been on ice since the disastrous one back in 1999 nearly ruined the brand forever, but now that the 50th anniversary is almost upon us, two competing events are trying to bring back the spirit of the 1969 original. One is being organized by original Woodstock co-creator Michael Lang and will take place in Watkins Glen, New York on August 16th to the 18th, while the Bethel Woods Music and Culture Festival will take place on the original Woodstock grounds that same weekend. (Bethel Woods is much smaller venue, a 15,000 seat pavilion).

RS takes a look at what 'legacy acts' are still around and the prospects of a return visit. Speculation is endless at this point. There are also many legendary bands and performers who were not at the original Woodstock, but might still make a good addition to one of the line-ups. Of course, newer and modern acts are wide open as both events will cover multiple genres.

So let's have some fun and put ourselves in the organizers' chairs. Who would be on your invitation list for either venue? Which of the legacy performers would you like to see? What other legendary acts or otherwise more modern or newer acts would be on your invitation list?

Use your imagination and just have fun!!

BTW - Santana has already announced that he's ready to go. It will be a big day for him.

John Fogerty, The Doobie Brothers, both still touring, good chance they would be there. Can't imagine they won't bring in Bob Dylan somewhere.

Great choices!!

While she can no longer perform, a tribute to Joni Mitchell and her song Woodstock, is another must have on the list.

Must be on the list:  Willie Nelson and Neil Young

Neil Young often performs with Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real band.

Lukas often appears with Willie and Family.

Let's have Willie and Neil appear with Lukas Nelson & POTR.

So how can you have a "peace and love" festival without Mr Peace and Love himself?

First on my list:  Ringo Starr
