Carly Simon's No Secrets album. The first album I bought on 8 track. I was about 15 then and I played it endlessly; the lyrics seemed to have so much insight into family dynamics, romantic relationships, growing up, and women's issues. Listening to it again almost 50 years later, I'm still impressed with the insights, the understanding of human psyche, the highly literate lyrics that stand as prose poems (or poetic narratives, I'm not sure which), and the depth of honesty. Highlights:
*"The Carter Family"
"The Carter family lived next door for almost fourteen years,
With Gwen and I inseparable from rag dolls through brassieres
Then Gwen began to bore me
With her giggles and her fears
The day the Carters moved away
I had to fake my tears"
*"His Friends Are More Than Fond of Robin"
"He's talked about before he gets there
Though he can never understand it
And I would like to be his alone
But I'm shy and can't demand it"
*"We Have No Secrets"
"In the name of honesty, in the name of what is fair
You always answer my questions
But they don't always answer my prayers
Sometimes I wish
Often I wish
That I never, never, never knew
Some of those secrets of yours"
And broken hearts and sentimental schemes
Now every tender failure seems to overthrow old dreams
Love can lead a normal woman to extremes"
And God came down to earth and slipped away
I pretended not to notice I'd been abandoned"

The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks (1968)
PBS recently aired a documentary on the making of this album. The Kinks had been banned from the US from 1965 to around 1970, so they decided to go more UK oriented with their music and lyrics. Ray Davies said that he focused on his home town and the things he missed about it. I looked up the album on Apple Music and have enjoyed every minute of it. The title song is the only one that sounds familiar to me. Does anyone remember this album? If you get a chance to watch the PBS special, it's very interesting piece of rock history.
