Though I don't usually listen to much country music, I recently rediscovered Gary Morris and his hit albums from the 80's: Why Lady Why, Greatest Hits Vol. 2, and Plain Brown Wrapper. These were all ones I had on cassette tapes, so updated to the digital versions and listening to them all again.

Who's Gary Morris? Is "Why Lady Why" the same song  that Alabama did? Is Gary Morris from Alabama (the group)?

Hi @dl73698250 - Gary Morris had a lot of progressive-country hits in the mid-80's. He is not connected with the group Alabama. In fact, he is from my home state of Texas. He went on to Broadway to star as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, and the theatrical version of La Boheme with Linda Rondstadt. In recent years he recorded several gospel/Christian music albums.

Why Lady Why is not the same as the Alabama song. He wrote this one with Eddie Setser, and wrote many songs that he recorded in collaboration with other songwriters. Other hits include Wind Beneath My Wings, The Love She Found In Me, Velvet Chains, Don't Look Back, and many more, plus two duets with Chrystal Gayle - Makin' Up for Lost Time and Another World.

Thanks. By the way, I have a copy of a French version of "La Boheme" by Charles Aznavour & Patrick Bruel. I didn't know it was from a play.

The Broadway musical was actually adapted from the opera La Boheme written by Puccini. I'm not familiar with the Charles Aznavour song, but apparently it is one that he wrote and routinely performs, based on the same character in the opera! I'll have to find it on youtube and give it a listen!

"Tightrope" is the only song I remmember from Leon; I know he did more. There was time (1983 or so) that Leon Russell was playing at the "Flying Dutchman" near Charleston,SC. He was borrowing Willie Nelson's tour bus and the auxilary generator was having problems. It was brought into the shop where I worked to be repaired. I got a free pass to the concert, but I couldn't go! My wife was sick at the time and I had to stay home. Bummer. Oh well.  By the way, I like Michael Martin Murphy, too. "Wildfire" is a masterpiece; I love that song.

Listening to Breakfast with the Beatles, just like I do every Sunday morning~ Hi everyone, I'm new here and love music, most all music. I'm not fond of Polka Music and new country music. I prefer the old, classic Country people.

BEHIND THOSE EYES    3 DOORS DOWN

Founding guitarist of 3 Doors Down Matt Roberts dies
WEST BEND, Wis. (AP) - Guitarist Matt Roberts, a founding member of the rock band 3 Doors Down, has died in Wisconsin.

The 38-year-old was in West Bend to perform at a benefit. The West Bend Police Department says someone called authorities around 7 a.m. Saturday to report an unconscious man in a hotel hallway. Police and firefighters found Roberts dead.

The police statement says there were no signs of trauma and the cause of death was not immediately known. An autopsy was planned for Sunday.

Roberts left 3 Doors Down in 2012 for health reasons. According to Billboard, he helped found the band with vocalist Brad Arnold and bassist Todd Harrell. They were all natives of Escatawpa, Mississippi.

The band's biggest hit was the 2000 song "Kryptonite," which was nominated for a Grammy Award.
