Standout Album/Song Titles
Which song or album titles stand out for you? Maybe it's a memorable or poetic or funny phrase, maybe it perfectly sums up the material inside, or maybe you have another reason for loving it. Your answer doesn't have to be a song/album that you think is especially good; it's the title we're focusing on here.
To start: Ozzy Osbourne's Blizzard of Ozz, because "blizzard" aptly describes the songs and because the phrase is a rhyming spin on another, well-recognized title of a work that takes the listener/reader on a crazy trip to another world.

Wish you were here, 1975, Pink Floyd
This album partly addresses the mental
illness that plagued Syd Barrett, who left
the band 7 years earlier and takes a few
shots at the music industry as well. The
haunting “Shine on you crazy diamond”
uses Syds initials and describes his
painful battle. “Wish you were here“
addresses him as well. There is a
documentary as well that is excellent
viewing for any PF fan

How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - U2
As described in the book U2 by U2 - the title was Bono's idea, but he did have to fight for it. Some in the U2 camp thought it might not be a good idea, since there had been a lot in the news about the potential of terror attacks using dirty bombs. But eventually, everyone came around to the idea. If Bono is anything, he's persistent.
Bono said that the title was influenced by his father, referring to him as 'atomic Bob'. Bono's father had passed away in 2001, and two of the songs were written with him in mind. He credits his father for letting him be himself, which he felt allowed him to become successful.
The album was highly acclaimed, and won Grammys in all nine categories for which it was nominated over 2005 and 2006.

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,
1967, Beatles
I don’t think there’s any explanation
needed but this album set the bar
that rock bands could (and should)
do, more or less, whatever they
wanted. That concept, along with
the bands experimentation with Acid
created this incredible album full of great
songs and lush imagery. I have never seen
an album cover since that compares
to this one 💜4️⃣

Love At First Sting (9th album)
Sting In The Tail (17th album)
Scorpions
Album titles that work pretty well when your band is called Scorpions. 🦂 😎
Love At First Sting contains three of their most successful songs - Rock You Like A Hurricane, Still Loving You, Big City Nights, and was their best selling album in the US going triple platinum. The cover art had to be changed to sell in some US department stores because it was a little too sexy.
Sting In The Tail sold well in the US, being their best selling album here in 20 years. It was thought to be their final album and supported by what they also believed would be their farewell tour. Fortunately, that wasn't the case. They made a second farewell in 2015, and are presently in the studio working on a new album. If Covid ends, they will be taking a residency in Las Vegas beginning in May 2021. If all is well by then I will be there!

The Stranger, 1977, Billy Joel
Although he broke out with “Piano Man”
in 1973, this album made me a fan for
life. The songs exude confidence dealing
with everyday issues like hope, love,
decisions, divorce and death. To date
his best studio album ever 💜🎼
Movin’ Out (Anthony’s song)

Deep Purple In Rock - Deep Purple, Mk 2 (1970)
This was the first album for the Mk 2 line up featuring Ian Gillan on vocals. The cover art depicts their heads carved in stone Mount Rushmore style. They were announcing to the world that we are a "hard rock" band, and the album is heavy, solid hard rock.
The opening track, Speed King, became their show opener, but the stand out track was Child In Time. Gillan's vocals are chilling that begin with soft cooing and build to those full throated banshee screams that reach high A, then followed by one of Blackmore's best guitar solos. It is arguably Purple's best song ever, and remained a staple in the set list until Gillan's voice could no longer support it.
The interesting story that goes along with this album, is that prior to recording it, the band agreed to perform Jon Lord's Concerto for Group and Orchestra (1969). It actually got them a lot of attention because nothing like that had been done before. Gillan and Blackmore were hesitant to do it thinking it would send fans the wrong signal. But they agreed so long as the next album would go full throttle hard rock. Quoting Blackmore, 'right, we're going to make a rock and roll LP. If this doesn't succeed I'll play in orchestras for the rest of my life'.

Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols (Sex Pistols)
From Wikipedia: "[Steve] Jones said he picked up the phrase "Never mind the bollocks" from two fans who would always say it to one another. Johnny Rotten explained its meaning as a working-class expression to "stop talking rubbish".
The title sets the album's attitude: straightforward, crude and very British.

Rubber Soul - The Beatles
The name came from the term "plastic soul", which refers to soul music that is not authentic in terms of its African-American roots. The titles implies that The Beatles were creating their own brand of soul, which is exactly what happened. This album goes down in music history as a game-changer, not only for The Beatles, but for rock and pop music as an industry. It is often acknowledged as the beginning of psychedelic rock, and the first album to be considered as a complete work of art, not just a few singles with fillers. It won many awards and accolades throughout the industry.
Remains my favorite album, and gets my vote for #1 album of all time. (It ranks #5 on Rolling Stone).
Some interesting fun facts about Rubber Soul . . .

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Their first concept album, described by Roger Waters as things that "make people mad". In particular, it was about those things that affected them as a band, such as the dark side of the music industry and Syd Barrett's mental breakdown. So "dark side" is an accurate description of the album, and add to that, the iconic cover art.

Great title for a reunion that Eagles' fans had always hoped for. It's what happens when a band decides to let their egos get out of the way and just play great music.

The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and
the Spiders from Mars, 1972,
David Bowie
Bowie made this concept album about an
androgynous, extraterrestrial rock star with
sexual charisma and a massive ego. The
songs, iconic fashion statement and glam
imagery that drive this album are in line
with the album title and catapulted Bowie
to global superstardom. Some of his finest
work and a reminder of how much his
creative force is still missed today.

Pop - U2
In the book U2 by U2, Bono explains that the title, Pop, was disingenuous, as it was anything but pop music. The band had experimented heavily with technology and electronics for sound, along with different mixes of rock and dance rhythms. They were looking for a sound that went well beyond the pop music playing on the radio at the time.
The band ran out of time as touring was set to being, and were disappointed with the final product. They felt that it just needed more work. Many of the songs were later reworked, rerecorded, and remixed for a compilation album, The Best of 1990-2000.
Interestingly, the album went to #1 in many countries, and then sales just dropped off completely. It went platinum only once, a rare occurrence for U2. It remains the lowest selling album in their catalog.
BTW, U2 holds the record for most Grammys won by a group at 22, and they are the 4th artist in American history to have a #1 album in four straight decades.

Great topic! This should get some interesting responses because there are some really great album titles appropriate to the topic. I'll start off with this one . . .
The Battle Rages On - Deep Purple (1993)
This was the last album recorded by the Mk 2 lineup. Gillan had rejoined the band in 1992 for the group's 25th anniversary tour, after being fired over a dispute in 1989. Part the album had already been written, so Gillan was already unhappy that it wasn't all his work. Blackmore and Gillan had not reconciled their differences, and the tension in the band was at a fever pitch. The battle raged on until Blackmore left in 1993 before the tour was finished. Purple finished the tour with Joe Satriani taking over for Blackmore.
