Oh that's so cool! Sounds a little like Shakespeare, but I looked it up and found that Clapton took most of the lyrics from a poem, The Story of Layla and Majnum, by Nizami, a Persian poet. Clapton gave the poet "co-writing" credit. It was also the inspiration for Layla.
