Songs about Heroes or Heroines

Just trying to think up a new song topic, so maybe try this one. Think of songs about your heros or heroines. Songs may have hero in the title or lyrics (those are easy), but others may be inferred by something a person has done, or be in reference to a particular person. Be creative!

So here are my first picks to get started -

Holding Out for a Hero - Bonnie Tyler

Candle in the Wind - Elton John (in reference to Marilyn Monroe and later Lady Diana)

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.” - Jimi Hendrix

@DarcyFarrow: Great add by Johnny Clegg. He and his band Savuka were heroes in their own right. They were an integrated band, which was a violation of Apartheid.

Here's to the heroes - all of us, but especially our first responders. Written by the late John Stewart after the assassination of Bobby Kennedy. John and his wife Buffy Ford had been traveling with what John would later call "The Last Campaign" It has just been done by the current Kingston Trio. I am putting both John's and their versions here for you::

"Color Him Father"  by the Winstons

"I love this man I don't know why
Except I'll need his strength till the day that I die
My mother loves him and I can tell
By the way she looks at him when he holds my little sister Nell
I heard her say just the other day
That if it hadn't been for him she wouldn't have found her way

My real old man he got killed in the war
And she knows she and seven kids couldn't of got very far
She said she thought that she could never love again
And then there he stood with that big wide grin
He married my mother and he took us in
And now we belong to the man with that big wide grin

Think I'll color this man father
I think I'll color him love
Said I'm gonna color him father
I think I'll color the man love, yes I will"

Great add! I was in high school when this came out. The Monday after it went on sale my religion teacher brought a record player and the box set into class. We spent four days listening to it and discussing it. I asked my parents for two albums for Christmas, that year. This, and "All Things Must Pass". I got them both.

Yeah! I have both record set too! I also got the third best two lp set, "The Concert for Bangledesh". I saw the movie on JCS and the play. We saw "Bangledesh" concert movie many times, cause in a way it was one of the first movie/video concerts. Harrison played many a song from the "ATMP" in that movie. A great time that was. Interesting that Murray Head would surface later with the "decadent" ,One Night In Bangkok recording later in the 70's.

Another song by Bruce Springsteen - involving both trying to be a "Hero" and having to "Travel" to do it. I'm posting this in both threads.

My very favorite version of Heroes by David Bowie is the English-German version, with a video extracted from a German movie "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" about a young girl's true story of falling to heroin addiction.

Edit:  my German co-worker was astonished when I asked him about the movie a couple years back. He was astonished that anyone here in the US had even heard of the movie. Made me happy to see him so excited about this.
