Songs about Heroes or Heroines

Just trying to think up a new song topic, so maybe try this one. Think of songs about your heros or heroines. Songs may have hero in the title or lyrics (those are easy), but others may be inferred by something a person has done, or be in reference to a particular person. Be creative!

So here are my first picks to get started -

Holding Out for a Hero - Bonnie Tyler

Candle in the Wind - Elton John (in reference to Marilyn Monroe and later Lady Diana)

โ€œWhen the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.โ€ - Jimi Hendrix

Mr. Custer: Larry Verne (please indulge me; ran out of ideas for โ€œheroes or heroinesโ€ songs, so I threw in an โ€œanti-heroโ€ song. It wonโ€™t happen again).

While we traditionally think of a hero as someone who survived or, more likely, died in a battle, there are many ways to be a hero. Sometimes living your life with courage and vision in spite of a very difficult situation takes a heroic effort.

I Dreamed About Mama Last Night: Johnny Cash (from the tribute CD to Hank Williams titled โ€œTimelessโ€). A tremendous list of artists, from Dylan to Keith Richards to Kebโ€™ Moโ€™ to Tom Petty to Sheryl Crow to Emmylou Harris to Mark Knopfler to Lucinda Williams each sang a song. Terrific CD. The song Johnny Cash elected to sing is a bit schmaltzy, but what the hell..
