Fire and Rain…. James Taylor, 1968
“Just yesterday mornin', they let me know you were gone
Suzanne, the plans they made put an end to you”
This song has 3 verses
One is about a friend who committed suicide
another about Taylor’s addiction to heroin
the third refers to a mental hospital and his band (The Flying Machine)

I’m the greatest, Sir Ringo, 1973
Although this song was recorded by
Ringo, it was written by John Lennon
as a wry take on his rise to fame. So
it was a tribute to himself. He later
tailored the lyrics for Ringo to sing.
All three Beatles (minus Paul) appear
on the track. It was the only time that
happened since the Beatles broke up
and Johns death in 1980 🎼💜😢

Someone saved my life tonight, Elton John
Trapped to be married to a woman he didn’t
love, Elton attempted suicide in 1968. A friend
convinced him to end the relationship thus
the ”Someone” in the title and also is the
“Sugarbear” But the true “someone” who
saved his life was Taupin, who saved him
from killing himself.
My most favorite song of his forever 🎼💜

Mr. Bojangles - Jerry Jeff Walker
The song was written about a down and out street performer, Mr. Bojangles, when Jerry Jeff Walker and Mr. Bojangles spent some time in the drunk tank in New Orleans around 1966. It was a hit for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1971 and Sammy Davis Jr in 1972. It has been covered by many others. It is a classic..

Boy From Tupelo - Emmylou Harris
Written for Elvis - A lot of songs have been written in tribute to The King of Rock & Roll. I especially like this one written by Emmylou Harris.
Today marks the 87th anniversary of his birthday.
HBD Elvis, you are greatly missed. 💛

Layla, Derek&the Dominos, 1971
Everyone probably knows this song,
which Clapton wrote about his unrequited
love for Patti Boyd, who was married to
George Harrison at the time. It also was
inspired by a book Clapton read called
The story of Layla and Majnun, by a 12th
century Arabian poet, was a love story of
a young man who fell in love with a girl,
went crazy so he couldn’t marry her. This
book moved Clapton as it must of mirrored
his real life situation
