"EVEN THE LOSERS" get lucky sometimes! (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)

Came out in 1979 on the **bleep** the Torpedos" album, about a year after I presented TP as the opening act to J. Geils Band at a theatre that I managed on Long Island. I produced over 50 concerts at The Calderone Concert Hall, and over 100 more at venues throughout the Northeast between '76 and '82.  I wrote it all down in "BABYSITTING A BAND ON THE ROCKS" (available online at LTCDS.com > Webstore > Books). Adventures with Aerosmith, Van Halen, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Billy Joel, Keith Richards and more!

"Blessed Are" by Joan Baez is primarily about the loss of "the young ones who have died" and I think mostly of the parents who have lost their own child.  We say things like "they died before their their time" and parents say " it's not right that they die before the parents."  It is a tragedy among tragedies.  One verse is "wild deer die in the mountain snow" partly which means some of us die in our prime, despite beauty and young life.

The song is about other things at deeper levels, and speaks to my whole philosophy of life, but that's a long discussion I can't go into in this short space.  Do listen to it if you can.
