Watching the wheels by John Lennon
"People say I'm lazy
dreaming my life away
Well they give me all kinds of advice
Designed to enlighten me
When I tell them that I'm doing fine watching shadows on the wall
"Don't you miss the big time boy, you're no
longer on the ball"......
The poet laureate of my generation---Bob Dylan.
Another group that is poetry in music is the Mama's and the Papa's. My song choice of theirs is:
Dedicated to the one I love
"Each night before you go to bed my baby
Whisper a little prayer for me my baby
And tell all the stars above
This is dedicated to the one I love"......
I Am I Said by Neil Diamond - pure poetry
Simon and Garfunkel: The Sounds of Silence
"God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys
Anything by the Moody Blues and songs by Marty Balin (Jefferson Airplane) especially "Today" and "Comin' Back To Me" from Surrealistic Pillow.
The best two songs on my #1 album in my large collection.
Totally agree with your choice of the Moody Blues.
I loved Jefferson Airplane too. But my fav song by them that is totally poetry is "Miracles", written also by Marty Balin. They don't write songs like this nowadays 😎
"I can hear windmills and rainbows whenever you talkin' to me (Never say never)
I feel like swirling and dancing whenever you walk in
with me (whenever, whenever you walk with me)
You ripple like the river when I touch you (let me touch you)
Then I pluck your body like a string"......
"Miracles"...one of his best, but anything by him is incredibly sensual. Also "Caroline". I finally met him years ago and he signed my chest but, unfortunately, I could not afford to have it tattoed. I could have been quite the stalker as far as he's concerned! lol
That's a great story about Marty Balin! I agree about his music being sensual. I love the Moody Blues also and if you check this whole thread out you will find 7 postings by me of Moody Blues songs. They truly are poetry in rock imo
Today: John Denver (Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine, etc).
Tiny Dancer by Sir Elton
"Blue Jean baby, LA lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must of seen her, dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand"......
Storms by Fleetwood Mac
"Every night that goes between
I feel a little less
As you slowly go away from me
This is only another test"......
Tragedy: Thomas Wayne
Man on the Moon by REM
"Mott the Hoople and the game of life (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Andy Kauffman in the wrestling match (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Monopoly, 21, checkers and chess (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Mister Fred Blassie in a breakfast mess (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Let's play Twister, let's play risk (yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah)
See you in heaven if you make the list (yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah)"......
Longfellow Serenade - Neil Diamond (He even named it after a poet!
)
Someone like you by Van Morrison
"I've been travelin' a hard road
Baby, lookin' for someone exactly like you
I've been carryin' my heavy load
Waiting for the light to come shining through"......
Pieces of April by Three Dog Night
"April gave us springtime and the promise of the flowers
And the feeling that we both shared and the love that we called ours
We had no time for sadness, that's a road we each had crossed
We were living a time meant for us, and even when it would rain
We would laugh it off"......
Legend of a mind by the Moody Blues
"Timothy Leary's dead
No,no he's outside looking in
Timothy Leary's dead
No,no he's outside looking in
He'll fly his astral plane
Take you trips around the bay
Brings you back the same day
Timothy Leary, Timothy Leary
— Chris Stapleton
You've got to hide your love away by the Fab 4️⃣
"Here I stand head in hand
Turn my face to the wall
If she's gone I can't go on
Feeling two foot small
Everywhere people stare
Each and every day
I can see them laugh at me
And I hear them say
Hey, you've got to hide your love away".......
A Poem On The Underground Wall - S&G
Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits
"You get a shiver in the dark
It's a raining in the park but meantime
South of the river you stop and you hold everything
A band is blowing Dixie, double four time
You feel alright when you hear the music ring".......
Rock the Casbah by the Clash
"Now the king told the boogie man
"You have to let that raga drop"
The oil down the desert way
Has been shaken' to the top

He went a-cruisin' down the ville
The Muezzin was a-standin'
On the radiator grille"......
