Re: Songs That Ask A Question

How Can I Be Sure - Young Rascals (1967)

Getting my driver's license license in 1967 was quite exciting.  Driving around in the family car was also exciting.  It was a powder blue 1964 Mustang.  Falling in love for the first time only happens once.  That happened to me, wait for it, in 1967.

That was also the first time I was that sure of anything.  The last line of the song says, "How can I be sure? I'll be sure with you."  Well, I was sure but she was not.  As it turns out, she gave me my one and only "Dear John" letter.

Happily, I have found the love of my life and we have been together for many decades.  Still, hearing this song on the radio brings back a flood of memories of my youth, how naive I was, and the "decade of change" that many of us grew up in.
