PROTEST & REBELLION SONGS.."get it off your chest"
The only stipulation here is that the song should be commentary, controversial, expressing a rebellious, protesting "frame of mind"; generally, or speciffically, about society, culture, economics, wealth, poverty, politics, war, peace, relationships, etc, etc, etc.
How about some songs which, when you heard them, you thought, "Yeh, those lyrics tell it like it is!" or maybe you were offended by the controversial lyrics.
Your song selection may be from any time period in history and about any topic you choose, old songs and new songs.
Please be free to post protest & rebellion songs which either you agreed with or which "honked" you off.
Here is an opportunity to "Get it off your chest!" Go ahead and briefly include memorable lyrics of the song if you like [ if you remember 🙂 ]
To begin.....here's a protest song: Subterranean Homesick Blues Bob Dylan

@TheGent2U about White Punks on Dope. Heard in person - at college, 1981 (or maybe it was 1982). Worked setup, security and teardown alongside the roadies, at a concert with a full set by The Tubes. DANG. Lead singer wore 13 - inch platform heels and a gleaming white Elvis style suit for the song - they changed outfits every song in fact. And about those platform shoes - Fee Waybill is already an honest to God six foot six.
And now it's an oldie . . .jeez I thought I was rebellious listening to Talking Heads, Ramones, and especially the Jim Carroll Band. You know, I heard Romeo Void as BACKGROUND MUSIC, instrumental only, and a totally white bread conference. Gone full circle, it's now the music 'The Man' listens to.
.
Sorry for the rant. I about lost it when I saw very respectable gentlement at the Northern Plains Aviation event humming happily to 'I might like you better if we slept together'. **bleep**. Just proves DEVO's dark vision of the future was, if anything, optimistic.
OK WJSwitzer out
.
Oh PS. This.
