PROTEST & REBELLION SONGS.."get it off your chest"

The only stipulation here is that the song should be commentary,  controversial, expressing a rebellious, protesting "frame of mind"; generally, or speciffically, about society, culture, economics, wealth, poverty, politics, war, peace, relationships, etc, etc, etc.

How about some songs which, when you heard them, you thought, "Yeh, those lyrics tell it like it is!" or maybe you were offended by the controversial lyrics.

Your song selection may be from any time period in history and about any topic you choose, old songs and new songs.

Please be free to post protest & rebellion songs which either you agreed with or which "honked" you off.

Here is an opportunity to "Get it off your chest!" Go ahead and briefly include memorable lyrics of the song if you like [ if you remember ๐Ÿ™‚ ]

To begin.....here's a protest song:     Subterranean Homesick Blues     Bob Dylan

not to pontificate but the words of this song were actually taken from a speech King Haile Selassie I presented at the United Nations not long before he was ultimately deposed by the nationalists

This is a little far afield, but it is a protest song, of a sort: "Garden Party", by Rick Nelson. I noted elsewhere that I feel nostalgic for it. Which is ironic.

A Change Is Gonna Come       By    Sam Cooke

This was released in 1965 as a protest song for the Civil Rights Movement.

Sad that we are still trying to love one another.   I also keep hoping to end

the hate.   Keep believing that "A change is gonna come"   Someday!!

Thanks to  DMELCHONI for the  'you tube'  site.   The Gent2U  also did that.

I went right to you tube and listened to "Eve of destruction"    Memories brought back.

The young lady that brought us the song "Band of gold', also had a protest song.

"Bring the boys Home"  fitted the era.    Interesting that this song did not make the

album 'Contact' for around the 50,000 sold,  After "bring the boys home" became a

hit, then it was added to the album.     Money talks !!!

Hola, @rc8149

I am smiling because I find myself brain (because this is a family website) cramping more than I used to. so I know the feeling. Sigh. Life (among other things) happens.

Blessings to you.

"For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield.  It's as relevant today as it was 40/50 years ago.  It was chilling to hear it played on Morning Joe the Monday after the Inauguration and the Women's March.  They showed scenes from the March all over the world and the words of David Crosby were as true in 2017 as they were in 1967.  "The more things change, the more they stay the same."

"Sweet Cherry Wine"

?????????????

What was that song protesting or rebelling against?

I loved that one, but I don't remember it as a anthem of protest or rebellion...

My mistake !   Mia Culpa !

I just looked up the lyrics and see the connection to the subject:

Come on everyone we gotta get together now
Oh yeah, love's the only thing that matters anyhow
And the beauty of life can only survive
If we love one another
Oh yeah yesterday my friends were marching out to war
Oh yeah listen now we ain't a marching anymore
No we ain't gonna fight
Only God has the right
To decide who's to live and die

So sorry, amigo. That was a good one, and a good catch !

@rc8149 - whether it is, or it isn't, Peter, Paul, and Mary had an appropriate song for this moment: "Light One Candle" (aka "Don't Let the Light Go Out") https://youtu.be/h1cRXgDFiSs
