Freedom and/or American Pride

Amazingly July 4th is next week. How about songs to celebrate our Freedom or American Pride? I will start with one of my favs- Rockin’ in the Free World by Neil Young

God Bess America  - Kate Smith

I have always loved "God Bless America."  In addition to being easier to sing (Thank you Irving Berlin!) it captures the beauty of our country from  "the mountains to the prairies."  I am sad that it is being pulled back since there is some backlash regarding Kate Smith, who did the song proud!

Tony once told me of a band that sang songs on how America is number one and everyone should bow down.

I don't remember the name of this band. Do you know just what it is?

America: Simon and Garfunkel (not a flag-waving type song, but a positive take on this country, in my opinion). Also, whenever I hear S&G’s American Tune, I feel like it’s an ode to America, the lyrics perhaps notwithstanding.

I agree with 1968Hoya46:  Simon & Garfunkel's "America" is a very positive take.  It reminds me of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in its depiction of the spirit that built this country, as the main characters set out to explore America, with bravery, optimism, imagination and humor.
