Oyster farms are improving water quality in Atlantic Coast bays and estuaries. Support these local businesses by taking advantage of the many NYC restaurants and bars with $1 each Oyster Happy Hours. Favorites in Manhattan are: The Mermaid Inn, at 570 Amsterdam Avenue and also The Mermaid Inn at 96th Street and 2nd Avenue; and The Mermaid Oyster Bar, at 79 MacDougal Street.

The John Dory Oyster Bar, adjacent to the Ace Hotel, at 1196 Broadway, is not the best deal in the city, but the oyster quality and selection (East and West coast are evenly represented) more than make up for it. Get there early for a seat.

P.S. Great Job with the AARP Magazine and website’s relevancy to Baby Boomers. Please also pay attention to folks like my parents, who are in their nineties!

All best,
