If at all possible, try to visit Boston close to Patriot's Day in mid April which the Bostonians celebrate as a bonafide holiday. This is close to the usual time of the Boston Marathon. You could also see a reenactment of "The Shot Heard Around the World" (the beginning of the American Revolution) or join in other historic events 9 miles West of Boston in Lexington, Mass. There is also great dining and shopping in that area. If you're really a history buff, drive 9 miles further west to experience Concord, Mass where the second confrontation between the Redcoats and Patriots occurred (more great shopping and dining there).
