Just a 2 1/2 hour drive from Seattle takes you to majestic Mount Baker, the northern-most snow-covered mountain visible from Seattle.

Take the Mount Baker Highway from Bellingham where you will drive uninterrupted by traffic lights once you leave the city. During the summer months through the month of September, you can drive all the way to Artist Point, with views of both Mount Baker and craggy Mount Shucksan. From this location, there are many trails with some paved.

On the way back, stop in at the tiny town of Glacier. There are three great restaurants to choose from: Chair Nine for pizza and cocktails, Grahams for a bit of local history (check out the pictures of Clark Gable from the movie, Call of the Wild, filmed here), or Milanos for authentic Italian. If you're looking for delicious coffee and baked treats, head to Wake-N-Bakery.
