I live in a Watershed protected community and all I had to do was to document which ordinance they were breaking and Code Enforcement took it from there.

Depending upon what ordinances are on the books under your zoning, somethings might be OK while others definitely not.

Keep in mind, zoning and ordinances change sometimes - make sure you know the current ones and whether or not these businesses have been sanctioned by a either a change in these laws or by a variance and you just missed it.

It is very important to not only research these things when you buy a home but that you keep up with any changes that begin to occur after that time.

Another place is to find out if they have a business license or are just operating unsanctioned.
