When Lise Beaneโs husband, Paul, died suddenly in 2002 at age 55, he left behind $60,000 in debt and a panicked wife. The couple had been married for 25 years, living comfortably in a Boston condominium. They had no children. Now Lise, who was working part time as a freelance writer, was financially insecure and facing an uncertain future.
โLiving alone and in debt for the rest of my life was a horrible thought,โ she recalls. โI was trying to keep a roof over my head."

Personally I would rather "downsize" than lose my privacy at age 67 this year 2025.
ALWAYS needed that and as I AGE more so.
Too old for the stress too of having folks who may NOT pay their part of things.
But glad AARP published this. May work for some folks.
