My first car was a 1936 Chevrolet..  I learned to drive it when I was 14 while moving from Ohio to California.  Four years later my dad gave it to me when I got married.  It had about 100,000 miles on it and a hole in the top of the gas tank.  I could only put about 50 cents worth of gas in it but at that time gas was only about 15 cents per gallon so that gave me 60 to 70 miles of driving.  After putting another 25000 miles on it I traded up to a beautiful 41 Plymouth..

My first car was a 1952 Chevy, two-tone green "deluxe" model. It had over 100,000 miles on it, but it ran just fine, and got me to school and back every day. The following year, Daddy upgraded me to a 1962 Chevy Nova. It didn't have a radio or a/c, but I loved that car. When I graduated HS, Daddy promoted me to a 1969 Chevy Caprice, a lightly used luxury car. After that, he said, I was on my own! The first car I bought on my own was a 1972 Chevy Malibu. Loved those Chevys!

My dad saved a 1939 Ford after he had bent the front axle. I was in my third year of college and really wanted a car to date in and drive to school. I asked if he could fix the old Ford sitting in the back yard. He agreed to try and after failing to find the exact parts, he installed an axle from a 46 Ford that needed some creative adjustments to make it fit. I bought some Naugahyde and did some upholstery and installed a headliner and then  he let me paint it I his shop. Did I mention that he was an auto mechanic ?  That project was one of the few things we ever did together as he was always working and did not have any hobbies. I drove it to college two years and kept it together  somehow and parked it after I graduated and got married. It basically sat and wasted away for the next 40 years and I sold it to a guy who collected old cars, since I had no place to work on it. That car was in my family for 65 years and I sold it to save it from rusting away. How many people keep their first car for 65 years ?

My first car was a 1969 Lincoln Continental with suicide doors. You could sit in the back seat, stretch your arms back and not reach the back glass. 2 1/4 tons, 0-60 in 8 seconds. 460 engine, 4 mufflers. Still miss having it.

My first car was a 67 Ford Falcon Coupe. I loved that car!  It had a Hurst four-on-the-floor and my father had put a 289 motor in it. Got out of my first speeding ticket simply by saying, "It's a Falcon!"  Case dismissed.

1950 Pontaic Chieftan, 2dr, straight 8 engine which had been a family car. My parents let me drive it to LSU in 1959 when I was a freshman. Got a parking ticket from the campus cops my first day there when I thought I could park in front of my dorm, Hatcher Hall instead of in the stadium parking lot which was a good distance away. Had the car there 3 years.
