Re: How much do you know about Thanksgiving?
It's incredible what they were willing to endure to practice their beliefs without outside influence. Thanks @VoyagerVicki for this interesting thread!

Re: How much do you know about Thanksgiving?
@UpperHandsPiano From the research I did, it seems like they didn't want to assimilate into another culture and wanted to keep their beliefs free from any outside influence. So, the New World with few people and settlements was the ideal location.

Wednesday's trivia answer:
When the Pilgrims first left England, they went to Leiden, Holland, before ultimately deciding to come to the U.S.
and Friday's trivia answer:
In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt officially made Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday in November after previous decisions of the last and second-to-last Thursdays in the month.

Re: How much do you know about Thanksgiving?
Vicki, you have given me a lot to think about this Thanksgiving! To answer your last trivia question, I've thought a lot about it. I'm still not certain, but I think the date for Thanksgiving no doubt had religious roots. Possibly the end of the Revolutionary War giving thanks for the end. And, maybe too, Octoberfest giving thanks for bountiful harvest. Dying to know!

The New World! Landed at some place with a big rock in Massachusetts.

Re: How much do you know about Thanksgiving?
Good question! I always thought that late November was too late for a harvest celebration. And too close to Christmas!
