Mine was a 1962 Chevrolet Impala four door hardtop inherited from my grandpa.  It was purchased new by my next door neighbor who was a GM employee.  The car, the neighbor, my grandpa, and the GM plant have all been gone for many years now.  It was special in that 1962 was the 50th anniversary of the founding of Chevrolet and the car was painted in a special Anniversary Gold.  It had a 283 cubic inch V-8 with a two speed Powerglide Transmission.  We nick named it the SS Pig because it was so slow.  My dad's six cylinder Rambler was faster.  Only had it about eight months because it was not reliable enough for my nearly five hundred mile trips to college.

Replaced it with a car I loved and drove to destruction.  My 1970 AMC Hornet was purchased new and driven for eleven years and over 96,000 miles.  Not too bad for a car of that era, but it was badly rusted in 1981, and the transmission needed work.  I bought an identical car for parts and got very good at taking the transmission out, and putting it back in with one or more salvaged part.  Like many of you I did all of the work on it myself.  The only time it was serviced by someone else was when it needed a wheel alignment.

My first car was a 1970 Plymouth Fury Station wagon. It was a V-8 with a 383 engine, white body with a red roof. It cost me $500.00 and she had 80,000 miles on it. It was a big first time car for me. Every time I pulled that car out of the driveway, it was like pulling out an M.B.T.A. bus.I bought the car on July 14, 1977 for $500.00 and it had 80,000 miles on it. I felt like the King of the road when I was behnd the wheel. I hung on to that car for about 4 or 5 years before trading it in.

My first car??! That would be a 1951 Chevy Belair, 2 dr, straight 6 cyl, with a 3 speed on the "tree" that had been converted to the floor! It was a friend of mine's, and while he was away at the Job Corps, his dad sold it to me for $ 11.25! $10.00 for the car, it was driveable, and 1.25 for the flat repair he had at the time. I sold it for 50.00, and the next guy sold it for 100.00 and the guy after him, sold the body for 100.00 and the engine for a 100.00. Every body made out good!!

My first car was a 1955 Ford Crown Victoria (black & white) with a 292 V8.  Bought the vehicle in 1962 for $500 dollars.  Had good sounging pipes.  Started school away from home and couldn't make the $20 a month car payment so I had to sell it.  I'm still crying today........should have asked parents for help.  Hind site 20/20.

My first car was a 1987 Camry.  I had so much fun zipping around the state with it.

I bought the 69 1/2 Camaro...the newer style...blue with black vinyl top.  So proud of it...don't think as cool as yours though...My boyfriend(soon to be husband)  wanted me to get the Z28...but I really think he was thinking about him driving...

I can't remember if it A.C..

Mine was a 1969 Camero, gold w/black interior & no A/C - in Georgia!  Somehow, that didn't bother me then.  My parents bought it for me when I turned 16 in 1974.  Dad got me a new stereo for it - 8 track tape! - and fixed it so it worked without the car being on at all.  Awesome speakers behind the back seat.  Great for the parties we used to have at the lake.  Just open the truck, turn up the music & rock & roll!
