I have often heard of this gesture but never thought it would happen to me.  One morning I elected to take our daughter on the way to school out for a quick breakfast at McDonalds.  When ordering through the drive thru we approached the window to pay only to be told, "oh mame you don't owe anything the car in front of you paid today."  The car had already pulled away while we were distracted.  I never got to see the person or thank them, but when I was able I made the same gesture to brighten someone's day just as the stranger did for me, and it felt so good to pay it forward.
