I was single and living in Moore at the time of the May 3rd tornado. I was just minutes away from disaster. The apartment that I was living in had the air conditioners blown off. I went to my sister’s house on the other side of Moore for safety. I lost time at work because I could not get to my place of employment due to all the debris.
As a result I was granted a new house by Habitat. I worked hard trying to get my sweat equity in so that I would have a place to raise my two teenage children. I was still short some sweat equity hours so that I could qualify. I was amazed at the people that donated hours on my behalf so that I could have a nice place to live. I finally met the goal and as of today every time there is a tornado in Moore I think about how lucky I am.
