Coud you give me some idea of what kind of implementation would appeal to you?

One that wasn't controlled by government. Right now the problem is shared by lawyers, insurance companies, and government.  Years ago there were county hospitals for the poor and middle class as well as private hospitals with little lawyer involvement and no insurance companies.

What's your plan?

One of the reasons we can't come together is that one side never offers a solution. They just say "you can't do it THIS way".  I would look to the countries who have universal coverage, better outcomes, and lower costs to see how they do it and model a plan after them.  Personally, I like Canada (I lived under their system) and Norway but neither of those meet your restrictions.

What do you see as different today from the "years ago" scenario?  I can show you 10 countries using the universal model with less costs and better outcomes. Can you show me a study or plan which adheres to your restrictions so I can judge?

I also like Canada's system EXCEPT for when you need a quick MRI (not many around) or a quick appointment with a specialist or you want surgery done in one week and NOT six months. Could it be that what we have (for certain things) is better than Canada? When you remove Government interference, you get the best quality and reasonable times.

Take a look at the VA here in the U.S. and that system is a good hint of Canada's system. I also like the way they do it in Costa Rica (I think) not having participated.

On various cruises one will enjoy the company of many Canadians. Always, health care comes up and consistently the sentiment of the Canadians is, if you have a fever, cold or other simple medical problem, you can't beat their home healthcare. If however, you have a  need for a joint replacement, organ transplant, heart services, in the near future, you best pack your bags and head for the U.S.. The caveat however, since Obamacare, the wait time in the U.S. is getting far longer.

Unlike Corporations, Government does not CONTROL something because it funds it. IMHO, those AFFORDABLE hospitals and clinics of yore began disappearing in the late 1960's when a new profession emerged - The Hospital Administrator.

Before this, the senior MD usually ran the place, but then someone noticed there's no connection between medical expertiese and administrative skill, so non-Medical personal were to come in to handle the every increasing (thanks to the lawyers) paperwork. Idea was to REDUCE costs by using a $30/hr MBA to replace a $100/hr MD, BUT once they realized THEY were in charge, hospitals ceased to be places of healing as the HA's transformed them into PROFIT CENTERS.

Enter the era of The Charge Master that was and is a table of made up (i.e., no relation to any actual cost information) fees for everything that happens in the Hospital.

STEP 1: Eliminate Charge Master and set all hospital service costs based on actual analysis of the cost to provide the service.

The people selling group insurance plans to companies would use the fact they could "negotiate" MUCH lower-than-Charge-Master costs as a selling point. The people negotiating the group plans for the Compaines were delighted, and justified huge bonuses by reporting how THEY had saved the company millions by getting those LTCM charges accepted.

STEP 2: Universal Single Payer so the Government will make payment to the provider based on the ACTUAL cost to provide plus a reasonable profit and then collect from the insurance company.

STEP 3. Cover EVERYBODY with an increase to Medicare contributions so there are no more parasites on the system who don't pay but get care.

I will go first. I want every resident of the United States to have affordable healthcare to be in the top five developed nations using metrics of  life expectancies, infant mortality, and costs.

Can we come together on that as a goal?

I'll agree on the goal but not necessarily on the implementation. Great GOAL!

I'm LOL again! These posts about her are so entertaining. Many Trump Lovers are obsessed with Hillary. They followed 8 or 9 Republican led investigations of Hillary with zero charges being placed which led to a certain level of depression in Hillary haters. They cannot live a normal life unless there's yet another investigation of HRC in the works. Face it, they need her so badly. There would be a huge void in their lives without someone investigating that woman.

Note: I don't like Hillary and think she was a horrible candidate, but it's time to put her in the archives and move on.

You're right Critical. They say "unite" yet they are only united on continuing to go after Hillary. Their blind hatred of Hillary blinds them to Trump's agenda to enrich the 1% at the expense of all other Americans

Could you explain how it should be implemented?
