Re: tRump works to destroy NOAA
It's not neo-Liberal, it's neo-CONSERVATIVE.''
"Neoliberalism" is contemporarily used to refer to market-oriented reform policies such as "eliminating price controls, deregulating capital markets, lowering trade barriers" and reducing state influence in the economy, especially through privatization and austerity.
Embedded liberalism is a term for the global economic system and the associated international political orientation as they existed from the end of World War II to the 1970s. ... Mainstream scholars generally describe embedded liberalism as involving a compromise between two desirable but partially conflicting objectives.
Embedded liberalism uses the power of government for the common good, Neo liberalism is free markets and small government. Both preserve capitalism. Most of the social programs we still have in the US are the result of New Deal embedded liberalism.
Soon as FDR died Neo Liberals began to disassemble the New Deal, they're still at it.

Re: tRump works to destroy NOAA
Thank you Olderscout66 for clarifying/correcting the "neo-conservative" vs "neo-liberal" economic schools of thought. I think it's important for people to understand this.
I found your original post very interesting. I had no idea of this stuff. Initially I was impressed about Barry Meyers, but then the details you provided made me ill. Interesting, too, was how so many national weather services exchange information...like for hurricane Sandy.

I think basically what you describe is neo-liberal economics. Small government, privatization, individualism for the individuals, socialism for the industries.
Schools, Weather, Roads, Water, Sewer, Medical care, the trend would be police, fire, and other emergency services too.
We have been so enmeshed it that for so long we don't see the forest for the trees.
It's not neo-Liberal, it's neo-CONSERVATIVE.
By privatizing everything our Grandparents built for us - excellent schools, guaranteed benefit retirement, affordable college, public hospitals, world's best infrastructure - the GOPerLords put the EMPLOYERS in total control of the worker's lives.
They will replace Democracy with Corporate Oligarchy with just one more Republican Government.

I agree, it's conservatives that want to privatize everything. Privatization for profit, it's destroying our public schools and it will destroy America, except for the wealthiest.
Elect Progressives.

tRump works to destroy NOAA
tRump has nominated Barry Meyers to head NOAA, the Senate will not confirm him and this nomination has been stalled for nearly THREE YEARS.
Meyers and his brother founded AccuWeather, which relies on NOAA for all their actual forecast data, but he has objected streniously to NOAA's National Weather Service operating a website where ordinary citizens can access accurate up to date weather information BECAUSE AccuWeather SELLS the same information and doesn't want the competition.
If confirmed, Meyer's brothers who still run AccuWeather will be very happy and even richer if he simply terminates the Weather Service public access website. Meyers has also criticized NOAA for working with all the other National weather services, who provide 3 times as much data TO NOAA as they get FROM NOAA.
As an example of what that information can do FOR Americans, it was the EUROPEAN weather forcast that alerted us to Hurricane Sandy heading toward the North East, which caused the US Weather Service to give the alert that saved countless lives when Sandy struck the coast.
Meyers has also stated publically that it is unfair for there to be a National Weather Service because it competes with PRIVATE services like his AccuWeather and The Weather Channel, BUT NEITHER OF THOSE BUSINESSES CAN ACTUALLY COLLECT THE DATA TO PREDICT THE WEATHER - THEY GET ALL THEIR INFORMATION FROM NOAA AND OUR INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS.
No word yet on how much Meyers paid tRump for the nomination, but since we know the Ambassadorship to the EU was sold for $1,000,000, we can safely assume it was considerably more than $1M - why else would Bonespurs keep the nomination before the Senate for THREE YEARS instead of just getting someone else? Why else would Meyers NOT simply withdraw himself from the process UNLESS it was for something a great deal more valuable than his salary as chief of NOAA?
tRump is determined to destroy our Government FROM WITHIN - He and the Republicans who went before him ARE THE DEEP STATE.
