Reagan proposed such a law when he granted anmisty to thousands of law-abiding foreigners, but the GOPerLords who are still getting richer by exploiting undocumented workers killed the idea.

Remember this?

The case for a national ID card

comment :

The major objection to this is basically big brother is watching.  We know now big brother is watching anyway  ( project Alamo and Cambridge Analytica ) Goggle, Bing, probably the AARP, all collect, sell, and use data. We already have Real ID and Voter ID laws, why not just go for a National ID card. Valid for employment,  voting and ID in all US states and territories.

Issued free of charge at the local Post Office, photo ID, no worse then a Passport, backed up by a data base, protected by privacy laws.

Biometric face scan at the place of employment, check it against the National Data Base, maybe as simple as an app on a smart phone.

Include an appeals process, and an expedited appeals process for errors. Real ID laws already require a certified copy of a birth certificate, people with driver's licenses are already in the database.

I think it has to be a national ID, states like to play politics and scheme to alter outcomes one way or another.

Again, good morning to all-

The poultry industry in America has a lot to answer for- not just the way it uses and abuses people.

In the Ozarks where we lived for a long time, the ground water aquifer which provided nearly all residents their drinking and home use through private wells- superb water, by the way, cold water, clear, wonderful- is now unusable because of pollution from massive industrial scale poultry raising operations.  Nearly all poultry processing plants have pollution problems with rainwater run-off surface pollution from the plants.

The farms that actually raise the chickens and turkeys pollute stream and and rivers from rain water run off- a major source of ecoli and other fecal disease causing microbes.

Friends, this I KNOW because I saw it and lived it.

Big poultry processors- folks like Tyson, in particular- are bad for people who live near their plants, and they are bad for the environment,

And they are very bad for the workers who they bring in and use, abuse, and discard when it suits the profit margin of the company.

And after all, what really matters- the people who do the hard, nasty work of the industry or the stock holders who don't weant to have to think about what their profit machines are doing to the world and the people?

Yes, the poultry companies have a whole lot to answer for.

good day to all- Ed

Time to put Ronnies best idea to work - green cards for all currently undocumented workers who do not have a conviction for a crime of violence, citizenship test at age 18 for all their kids who likewise have no convictions for violent crime, and UNIONS to protect workers in the food processing industry.

GOPerBots delight in yelling about how all those workers are criminals because they are here ILLEGALLY need to be shut up by making the good workers LEGAL - it's entirely a matter of a piece of paper - a "GREEN CARD" - then they're no longer illegal/criminals.

: Mississippi ICE arrests

I didn't see any owners, managers, CFOs, corporate boards or major stock holders doing the perp walk in front of live cameras.

Until we fix the laws that give the people in control a pass we're going to continue to see the peons scapegoated in front of televison cameras.

Walls won't stop it, laws will.

Fine the corporation 3x of wages paid for each undocumented worker, if that doesn't stop it fine them 10X.

Yes. Joseph Grendys needs to be arrested. Not holding my breath though.

Good morning to all-

So, when the folks in Mississippi who speak a different language were rounded up, arrested, and put under a great deal of stress, why were the managers, supervisors, and administration of the poultry processing plant not arrested too. Why didn't the stockholders and the big money people who profit from the poultry plants face any problems? Those "illegal" workers were there with the total knowledge and complicity of the rich folks who profit from the poultry industry- which by the way is one of the nastiest, dirtiest, most polluting industries that still exists.

Who are the people who own and operate the processing plants?

And for those ignorant people who claim the immigrants who speak a different language are "taking jobs away from Americans" that's total BS. Native born "Americans" won't do the work of the poultry plants- it's very hard work, very nasty work, and "Americans" in general just won't do it. These folks who come here looking for a life and lives for their families are willing to do this work so they can have their kids in better schools and better lives.

I detest those fat-ass rich people who have the money and power to manipulate laws and politicians for their incresed profit- and who cares about "those people" who actually do the work to make the rich people richer.

We can do better than this.

Good day to all- Ed
