Willing Accomplices

Sen. Jeff Flake: Republicans Are ‘Willing Accomplices’ in Betraying American Ideals

Never has a party so quickly or easily abandoned its core principles as my party did in the course of the 2016 campaign. And when you suddenly decide that you don’t believe what had recently been your most deeply held beliefs, then you open yourself to believing anything — or maybe nothing at all. Following the lead of a candidate who had a special skill for identifying problems, if not for solving them, we lurched like a tranquilized elephant from a broad consensus on economic philosophy and free trade that had held for generations to an incoherent and often untrue mash of back-of-the-envelope populist slogans. Seemingly overnight.

Critical analysis of the current Republican Party by a Senator and member of the Republican Party.

However no mention racism, use of Nazi imaginary, Nazi slogans, Nazi idealism, ( “Lügenpresse” lying press) and so on. No mention of how Republicans bought into all of that and defended it, how they still defend it. I compare this analysis to a person who is for the most part a bad person 167 hours a week and thinks he can make that right by going to church on Sunday.

It should be noted this Senator just voted to kill people rather then save them.

Actions speak louder then words.

The Republicans 'thrive" on the basic idea that they are better than others.     Which is why I marvel at the Conservatives are trashing him for speaking the truth of their underlying philosophy of the conservativest and then they trash him for speaking the truth.

It appears that many of the GOP are not very good at facing their own reality, especially the admitted Goldwater Conservatives here.       Apparently they make claims and then run and hide when confronted with the realism of a Goldwater Conservative that is a serving member of the Senate.

This guy, Flake, bewails the loss of Goldwater conservatism to today's Republicans, but votes right along with the evil majority, acquiesing to the harm their harebrained medical insurance legislation would have been done to millions of Americans. With this book, Flake is political toast and he knows it, and doesn't care. That's one reason he was able to write the book. From the reviews, and interviews, (on PBS, and Morning Joe, so far,) it looks like there is some good stuff in there, and the book would be a worthwhile read. Despite his erroneous views on many subjects, his is like a voice from the past, a voice of moderation, and deliberation, things one wants to hear from a US senator. (So how then can he vote with the villains, is what I'd like to ask him.) Yes, he will be trashed and thrashed as an apostate by rw pundits who don't know Goldwater from groundwater. That will be interesting to watch.

Surely you understand that their "harebrained medical insurance legislation" would only take things back 4-5 years.

Somehow we managed to survive many moons with out the "harebrained medical insurance legislation" known as Obamacare.

Yes, we survived while other countries thrived.  We had the most expensive medical system in the world and the quality of our delivered health care by any measure was the lowest of 11 developed countries.  For a while, our child mortality rate was higher than Cuba.

This is what I love about the conservatives, they strive to be mediocre and often succeed.

Interestingly, the "conservatives" are throwing Flake under the bus...and he is a self-processed Goldwater Republican.    How is it that I know more about the GOP idelogists than the GOP bloggers here..or are they still trying to distract with their bs. namecalling gig.
