Along those lines, I would suggest that many liberals here have been making seditious posts, or close to them,  about the current administration.  What about the poster not too long ago who was calling for the military to overthrow the current President?

Go ahead Tx,  by the way did you get brainwahsed (sic) in Viet Nam?

Of course that should be considered a personal attack which has nothing to do with the topic.  What does Vietnam (the correct spelling) have to do with my post?  There was a liberal poster here who indeed posted that several times.

You enjoy having the government as a silent party in your business?  Telling you who you need to deal with in business?  And how to deal with them?   How is socialism working out in Great Britain where the government has a hand mostly in every business and activity?

Yes it did, Rome had a million residents at it's height, this is why they built aqueducts and had plumbing in the form of public toilets and baths. Rome could have been the first city to use gray water to carry away waste. In reality it had more to do with stone work then lead work, but is was an amazing system for it's time.

But you are getting away from the premise that plumbing came into being as an occupation because of the need, not the need because of the occupation, same as with electricians, etc.

My Dad was a pipefitter, an occupation that came into being because of the need for expertise in high pressure systems dealing with different and more sophisticated devices and material that couldn't be handled otherwise.  It also came about because of the need.

As far as the rest of your post dealing with conquests, religion, etc., remember that Alexander the Great and the Greeks conquered the known world of the time before the Romans.  And they were not well known for their aqueducts, etc., but for more classical pursuits.

Not sure what your post is supposed to mean, but military pensions has been been around at least from Roman times in some form.

Yes they have been, the Egyptians probably had some form of a military pension that predated the Roman Empire.

All of those great works of the ancients came from the socialism ( public works ) of it's time. People worked together to accomplish great things. They had Pharaohs and Caesars,  we moved on to representative government and democracy, but we still enjoy the benefits of socialism.

The word 'plumber' comes from the latin word for lead which isplumbum.  Therefore it meant those who worked with lead which was used on roofs and drain pipes.    But if there was no water or sewage systems there would be no need for plumbers.  You would have had to find another occupation if this was so.  The need came first before the occupation.

Yes it did, Rome had a million residents at it's height, this is why they built aqueducts and had plumbing in the form of public toilets and baths. Rome could have been the first city to use gray water to carry away waste. In reality it had more to do with stone work then lead work, but is was an amazing system for it's time.

Yes ........ without the public investment of the City and Empire of Rome, there would be no Rome as it was, and no plumbers, or masons, none of the great buildings, or the Roman roads, or the Roman Empire, culture, and law.

None of that would have spread around the Mediterranean and up into Europe. That technology never would have been created or used. The Romans never would have conquered Judea, Christ never would have be crucified, Christianity as we know it would not exist.

When Rome collapsed western civilization fell into the dark ages, what if Rome never existed?

Would our civilization and culture be based on the Egyptian empire, or the Greeks, or the Vikings,  who would have won that battle?

We are what we are today because of the socialism ( public investment ) of the Roman Empire.

@gruffstuff

Thanks for your on point posts. It appears that many who receive government support are biased in the

“I have mine, so yours must be unworthy”. Private support will never be inclusive of all those in need. We have government to enact norms which will benefit a majority of our citizens. Not always perfect, but better than the private sector which will try to take advantage of government support and then declare it as a illegal socialist event.

Helping citizens should be a priority for government, not ignoring them.

This thread is absurd. Trump Lovers are arguing about the constitution, which has very little to do with government programs. They developed over time because there was a need private industry couldn't handle or it was done in a horrible manner by the private sector.

The irony is the Trump voters who talk about government programs couldn't function without them. Yet they try to imply that government programs somehow reflect a weakness on the part of those who benefit from them. Trump supporters are the pathetic ones pretending to somehow be superior to those who benefit from them. What a joke!

Trump minions utilized their flawed logic to turn this thread into irrelevant, illogical trash, just as they always do.

If we could get away from the silliness of "Trump lovers" and honestly accept the fact that no one is calling for an end to the government and all it does (that belongs to anarchists) we could understand that the issue is really the proper relationship between the government and the governed. And then there is the side issue of the people who want and feel entitled to the property of others.

It seems to me that you are accusing members of this message board to be anarchists. I am afraid that is  a dangerous way to name whomever you are referring.
Yes, many do want to see this Administration end but we want to see it end, using the tools of our democracy which are elections.
So please stop that accusation which is extremely dangerous to many.  I will report your post.  for inciting or falsely accusing members of an illegal action.
