OK - gotcha - so no place where some private entity can make the rules.

Now what about at a protest at a public place ?

Can government's - local, state or federal - not make rules of conduct there pertaining to language or appropriate attire meaning with words or perhaps pictures since I assume both would fall under free speech?

It's always something.  Should trump have been allowed to say "grab 'em by the **bleep**"?

Private conversations are not regulated (yet).

Should trump be allowed to use speech in public promoting violence?

How is that related to "grab 'em by the **bleep**"???

When can a "Bad Word" be used in free speech?

People who own property have control over it, like this forum, any place of business or any home owner can limit speech in their place of business or home or property.

The expression  "people have a right to free speech" refers to limits of the power of the government to silence critics.

Can and should are two different things.

For example

I can call out Republicans for making allegiance with Nazis, or Russian Intelligence , but should I ?

To me that seems like a stupid question to ask, I think I should.

It's political speech, and most of the time when people engage in political speech they say things other people don't want to hear.

I mean can you wear a hat or shirt at a political rally or a protest that contains the "F" word?

What about if kids are around?

If it can be done there regardless of who is around - why not in print that presumably only adults would read - like here.

I don't know - I am asking.

What's a "Bad Word"?

Who's making the determination

I.E. - Rep. Omar said - it's all about the Benjamin's

The Leadership .......... in the Democratic Party tried to pass a Law that implied that what she said was against the law.......

They failed - 20 years ago they would have prevailed

Time - Space - Context - Intent - Audience - Complicated ......

Here's One Other Important Consideration - Here We Are Asking Questions About - "WORDS"

The Killer in New Zealand - Live-Streamed A 17-minute video that seemed to show the shooting & it was posted to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram............................

It Took Hours to take it down and Facebook had to be contacted by the New Zealand Police B4 They Took it Down.........................

But if you use a "Bad Word" you get punished - what about the Content Provider Platforms - they have No Responsibility or apparently No Liability

It's NUTS

Sorry wasn’t clear. Private entities can regulate free speech. Your employer can tell you what you can or can’t ay on the job, for example. Or what you can post to your social media site.

The government generally won’t.  But there are exceptions. There is protected speech and unprotected speech. Government has to prove a compelling governmental interest to restrict protected speech, and the restriction has to be done by reasonable time, place, and manner. So they can restrict advertising of tobacco products because its such a public health problem.   That sort of thing.

Unprotected speech like obscenity can be regulated. But still the standard is high since it’s constitutional right. just not as high as protected speech.  The government can even restrict all speech in a category if necessary. For example, the law will treat an obscene word on a t shirt out in public differently than something horrific like child porn.

Well, the right to free speech only protects you from the government. Not AARP or other forums that can set their own terms of service.
