Yeah, that was pretty slimy.

And using the bible to do harm.

I wouldn't think that was one of Jesus' teachings.

We all know that Christians, like all organizations, have saints and slimeballs mixed in with the greater population of folks in the middle.

The problem I have with the slimeball Christians is that they use their religion to justify taking rights away from other people.  Jeff Sessions using Romans 13 to justify taking kids from their parents and locking them in concentration camps is a good example. Same passage Christians used to justify slavery and returning runaway slaves in northern states.

Better question; why are Christians so defensive?  Again, just a simple question....

Now, to YOUR questions....

Why is this thread here?  Because we all know the political parties, one far more than the other, kowtow to the "evangelical" vote.  Are "Christian values" politically important? Of course they are.....why do you want to dodge it?

Additionally, for those who actually care about "Christian Values", the topic, and read the values provided, did you agree with the values listed?

The source then goes into listing "Christian Values" of the center-right and center-left.

Christian Values of the center-right.....

In the 21st century United States, Australia, UK and other countries, the phrases "Christian values" and "family values" are used by Christian right and conservative parties to describe some or all of the following political stances:

Christian Values of the center-left.....

In the 21st century United States, Australia, UK and other countries, the phrases "Christian values" and "family values" are used by some liberal or social democratic political groups to describe some or all of the following political stances:

  • support for a culture of empathy and compassion, seen as central to Christianity among a diverse range of religions and worldviews; favoring individuals, families (of all compositions) and small communities' interests over the interests of large corporations and the powerful;
  • protection of the environment as the product of a deep reverence for God's creation;
  • the undesirability of war other than as a last resort, and a respect for diplomacy (see Swords to ploughshares);
  • embrace inclusion and acceptance of immigrants and refugees
  • a living wage for all and the right of workers to form trade unions as keeping with the solidaristic nature of man.
  • a high, progressive income tax to promote greater income equality in keeping with Jesus' words in support of the poor and against excessive riches;
  • promoting Render unto Caesar as an endorsement of secular governance separation of church and state (secular laws do not affect or no relations with religious freedom, such as same-sex marriage, churches can reject holding weddings for same-sex couples) and religious tolerance, consistent with the concept of Christ's kingdom not being "of this world" and warnings against the hunger for potentially corrupting temporal power throughout the Bible.

"Christian Values"

Would anyone disagree with the lists above?  Should some be added or deleted?  What do YOU think?

Why is this relevant?  Well, if we can agree for the most part on the lists above, and then think logically, we may note that much of our political disagreement lies on a difference in what many consider "Christian Values"....center-right or center-left.....regardless whether or not we consider ourselves ."Christian".

There are more non-christians than there are christians in this world, and most everyone behaves in perfectly acceptable manners without ever having "found" jesus. So while certain christians seem to think they have a corner on the market about conducting yourself respectfully, it would appear that the only real requirement is simply having your head on straight.

Let's not forget that, until Donald Trump, the EVANGELICAL WHITE voters applied all these "basic" CHRISTIAN VALUES and more to EVERY politician they supported.

But the BLACKLASH against everything Obama was too strong a draw for these EVANGELICAL WHITES and thus, we have a President who has discriminated against Blacks in housing, called a Black Congresswoman low IQ, and points out "HIS" Blacks at rallies.

Oh, and yes, violates almost every value these hypocritical CHRISTIANS believe in.

Of course, those are great values but I do not see how they fit in a political discussion.

You don't need to; it's ok.

Does that mean you do or you don't or just want to mumble?

"Christian Values" unquestionably do not fit or belong in any political discussion regarding the government of the United States of America.

"Christian Values" are Constitutionally not permitted to become intermixed with the laws and operation of the government of the United States of America - Separation of Church and State - you know - the 374 year old principle that the Plymouth Colony as well as the first Baptist Congregation (in Plymouth Colony) in the Nation believed in and wholeheartedly supported...

Are "Human Values" permitted?

Since they are not religious, they are Constitutionally permitted...

Good point, Snoopy.  I would agree.  But we often hear people say America was created based on "Christian Values" in mind; not "human values".

Sounds like a Pharisee baiting the Christians...

It's that difficult to stay on topic?  Surprised!

Asks many questions yet refuses to answer two very basic questions.  So far, none of which are relevant to the discussion.  But thanks for your non-contribution.
