Western Civilization Is Imperiled by Mob Rule

The Future of Western Civilization Is Imperiled by Mob Rule. Now Is the Time for Courage and Leadership.

BY:  Jarrett Stepman

The war on history has spread across our country and has even spilled over to other parts of the Western world.

Now, on a daily basis, we see scenes of lawless mobs attacking and tearing down statues, and defacing monuments of every type—often as authorities stand idly by.

But this violence has hardly been reserved just for statues.

After toppling a statue of an abolitionist who gave his life to the cause as a member of the Union Army, a mob in Madison, Wisconsin, mercilessly beat a Wisconsin Democrat state senator who supported the protests.

Mob rule is indeed coming to America. It must be stopped.

Authorities have numerous tools to stop the destruction if they would just show the willingness to use them. Failure to act will only encourage more acts of vandalism and destruction.

As I explained in my book, “The War on History: The Conspiracy to Rewrite America’s Past,” the attacks on our shared history go beyond any individual or statue.

What’s in peril now is not just the reputation of Christopher Columbus, the merits of the Founding Fathers, or the legacy of the Civil War. It’s something much broader and deeper.

What’s being threatened is the long history of ideas and institutions created and developed in the West.

The United States, of course, has been the prime target of radicals, because—whether we chose this role or not—it is the pinnacle of Western prosperity and strength.

Unfortunately, we have reached a point—due to the radical transformation of our schools and the rise of the new Left—where our elite institutions are no longer willing or able to defend the very ideas and people that made possible their existence.

In fact, those institutions are leading the charge to bring about this cultural revolution.

Those who do stand up to the statue topplers and radicals—even those who could be broadly defined as “liberal” or on the left—will be drowned out and castigated, will be accused of being racist, and purged by the inquisitors of social justice.

Just look at how the historians who stood up against the inaccurate, flawed, and ultimately destructive “1619 Project” developed by The New York Times have been treated.

The project’s creator, Nikole Hannah-Jones, dismissed her critics as “old white males,” and called others “anti-black.”

The purge and erasure of history require dissent to be silenced. No one may question the narrative. No one may be allowed to freely pursue the truth.

That’s what the war on history is leading to. It’s a war on 1776.

The attacks on history have moved international as well. Statues of Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln have been vandalized and defaced by mobs in London.

It’s telling that those were among the primary symbols being targeted.

After all, Churchill and Lincoln in their own ways were leaders who unabashedly stood by the essence of what their countries were in a time of almost overwhelming crisis.

Instead of tearing down Lincoln and Churchill, we must now look to them for inspiration in an uncertain age.

In an address at Bristol University in 1938, the British prime minister-to-be warned that civilization itself was under attack, that it would be tested, and that it would survive only if free people drew on their strength and courage to defend it.

In words striking in the face of our challenges today, Churchill said: “Civilization will not last, freedom will not survive, peace will not be kept, unless a very large majority of mankind unite together to defend them and show themselves possessed of a constabulary power before which barbaric and atavistic forces will stand in awe.”

Will we, like generations before us, answer the call to defend our way of life? Will it be the generation that grew up at the “end of history”—after the Nazi menace was crushed by the arsenal of democracy, the USSR’s evil empire collapsed, and free people stood triumphant—that will cast our hard-won victories aside in an effort to purge our imperfect past?

In an era of mob rule—where the very basis of American and Western civilization is being questioned and attacked from within, and when rising superpowers like communist China that stand in opposition to everything we represent are on the march—it is essential that free people resist the impulses leading to our self-immolation.

The hour is late, and our hot summer days are becoming dark.

Still, imagine what things were like for Lincoln sitting in the White House in 1861 as government of the people, by the people, and for the people appeared to be on the precipice of perishing from the earth.

Imagine how things must have looked for Churchill in the summer of 1940, when darkness was closing in on the last free country on the Continent, the British elite were eyeing capitulation to the Nazi juggernaut, and across the Atlantic the American behemoth was still sleeping.

The times were grim, but leadership and statesmanship in the face of nearly insurmountable challenges held civilization together, allowed free people to rally, gather their strength, and stem the tide of ruin, bringing forth what Churchill called the “bright sunlit uplands” in the era that followed.

Now we are again being called upon to mount a defense of our way of life. We have a great deal to lose and much at stake, because what’s at stake are not just statues and stone, but the freedom of millions alive today and the many more yet unborn.

Western Civilization is imperiled by Mob Rule in the White House. We have a president:

  • who does not support our NATO allies
  • Despite the fact that history has showed they don't work, Trump Imposed Tariffs and started a Trade War
  • Instead of being tough on N. Korea, Trump sent Kim Jong Un a series of LOVE LETTERS.
  • Trump has done everything Vladimir demanded.
  • Trump is trying to politicize and thereby destroy the independence of the Justice Department.
  • Trump has done his best to destroy the stellar reputation of the FBI
  • Trump was impeached for breaking the law
  • Trump has completely ignored SCIENCE and made one mistake after another with Covid-19, thereby endangering thousands of lives.
  • Remember when he said the virus was under "Total Control"?
  • Remember when he said everything will return to normal by Easter?
  • Remember when he advised people to drink bleach or take hydroxychloroquine?

You like anarchy and chaos in your liberal cities?  That's what you've got.  I don't have to deal with it, but you do!  We would never defund the police to satisfy some liberals.

Apparently some want to hide behind RW "editors" who are looking to control the media in the entire State of Colorado.    These are not some humble group of men who have spent their live working in journalism, they bought it.

The idea that maintaining statues of people who embrace the dark and unequal part of the US history is just plain weird.   They make some vague claim to magically equate the US history to all of Western Civilization.

My suggestion is to review the history of each person who has a building or statue and ask why was it built.   Easier yet, the same can be done of all those University buildings that were named after people...or hey, how about just those who loaned their name to a building so that they could reap financial reward.

What about the content about the writer on the Baltimore Sun?  As far as owners of news media, not everyone owning papers are journalists.

Democracy will take care of that problem, if Republicans will just allow people to vote.

The Future of Western Civilization Is Imperiled by Mob Rule.

The future of all western civilization from Washington, DC, to London, to Paris, to Rome, to Berlin, to Moscow, to Vienna, to Brussels, to Copenhagen, to Lisbon, to Warsaw, to Madrid, to Stockholm, to Brasilia, to Havana, to Dublin, to Budapest...

All of this is imperiled because of protests against police racism and brutality? Can you see how ridiculous that is? Some statues get toppled and there's a threat to the world as we know it? Seriously? No one remembers 1968? No one remembers Rodney King?

This disgusting fear-mongering is a thousand times worse than the protests.

I can't decide if garbage like this is more of a Chicken Little (The sky is falling!) situation or a The Boy Who Cried Wolf situation.

Nobody knew health care could be so complicated.

Appears this group is mostly Caucasian with only a few Blacks in the crowd, with only one distinct Black recognized as such.  The Blacks there don't care enough to protest?

Such a small percentage of a population of around 10,000 to have much bias against them.  The video comes across as an attempt to create news where there is little or none.

You can't have a nation of laws until laws apply to everyone.   Fix that, and then you will have the law and order you want.

Who says the laws don't apply to everyone?  Apparently they are not being applied to everyone that is bent on destruction rather than peaceful protesting.  Is burning down businesses, etc peaceful?

Data.

The in-group is white males.  To some extent, white women benefit from that.

The out-group is black males.  To some extent, black women suffer from that.

White males are not punished as often or as harshly as black males for the same offenses.  The laws, even while written largely by white men, apply to them less often.

On the flip side, black males haven't written many of the laws, yet they are disproportionately punished by them.  Witness the three white men who almost got away with murdering Ahmaud Arbery for jogging through a neighborhood.   Talk about vigilante "justice."  Or mob rule.  That's mob rule.  The prosecutor didn't want to charge them.  Because the laws don't apply to the in-group....

Fix that, and you get the law and order you want.  Otherwise, society will always been in chaos.  People don't riot for no reason.  Surely people understand that.

So you are saying that people don't riot for no reason?  And they are rioting because of the laws?  Strange and biased reasoning.  Why is it that there are many Blacks who have worked themselves up to legislators, mayors, etc.

How can anyone spend all that time rioting without having a means of support?

Interesting take on the rioting:

It’s Not About Race, It’s About Revolution

Honored Social Butterfly

They are left-wing revolutionaries

What is a left wing revolutionary?

Left-wing politics supports social equality and egalitarianism, often in opposition to social hierarchy.[1][2][3][4] It typically involves a concern for those in society whom its adherents perceive as disadvantaged relative to others as well as a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished

Why is that revolutionary?

What is revolution?

a forcible overthrow of a government or social order, in favor of a new system.

Protesters are trying to force a change  in government and social order  to support social equality and egalitarianism,  in opposition to social hierarchy

because they believe  there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished.

Personally I agree with that, provided the protests are peaceful.

The right to petition government for redress of grievances is the right to make a complaint to, or seek the assistance of, one's government, without fear of punishment or reprisals.

The First Amendment to the Constitution:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The key phrase is 'right of the people PEACEABLY to assemble'   These assemblies or petitions or protests have in many instances been anything but peaceable.  If the unpeaceable instances are blamed on instigators, they should take action to police themselves.

No it is not an interesting take on the rioting. It is just what you would expect from a paper in Colorado Springs home of the far right in Co.

What we are finding this time is that the far right supporters of Trump are behind the riots. That was the case in Abq., and on the West Coast. Lets see what comes out as investigations are done in other parts of the country.

It is like the Gov. of AZ following Trumps order to open up and then loosing control of the virus. AZ now just about the worst State in the USA for controlling the virus. The Gov. was told this would happen by the medical experts in AZ, but he followed trump anyway. Now AZ has lost control of the virus, and people die due to that, but the gov. refuses to go back to the path the Medical experts have laid out.

One would suggest looking to the Right - but some here refuse to acknowledge the killers there, who attempt to embed themselves within peaceful protesters.   I have written threads about the Boogaloa Bois and all the other far-right groups, did the folks here forget....so soon.   Or is it their abject denial of reality.

As for me, I believe it is great that "confederate" statues are being removed from public places as a supposed celebration to their history.    Meanwhile today - Mississippi is on the brink of remaking their state flag and removing the confederacy indicator.   Woodrow Wilson buildings and statues are being removed from Universities.

Even better, those in CA are looking to rename an airport in OC - because the guy was a homophobe and racist.    ( John Wayne).

What is it that the RW seems to want to embrace people who fought against the US being one nation.   Have they forgetten the words of the Pledge of Allegiance?

There is no doubt that people have a right to protest a grievance.  But what we are seeing is mob rule, or vigilante action by the destruction of property and general mischief.  It is wrong which side does it and unlawful because it is without due process of law.

It is often said that we are a nation of laws, but these actions illustrate that we aren't.  Especially the condoning by some politicians and political groups. Those condoning it could be classified as accessories to the unlawful actions.

When I see what is going on it brings to mind the Western movies of mobs/vigilantes busting a prisoner from jail and levying summary punishment at the end of a rope.

Is it right to correct wrongs by other wrongs?

God help our country, it is descending into chaos and anarchy.
