In 1929, Hoover and the Republicans took a 2-pronged approach to the collapse of farm prices.

First they established a new agency the Federal Farm Board that would make LOANS to farmers, but the real purpose was to allow the farmers to take on debt to pay the Republicans who owned the grain processing corporations.

Second, they pushed thru TARIFFS on grain and told farmers to grow less so the supply would exceed demand and prices would rise.

Double disaster - the loans could not be repaid and tens of thousands of family farms were sold to corporate (or just rich) interests and the World prices for grain plummeted, making the farm losses in 1930-33 much worse than the disaster in 1929.

Now Republicans are trying to find a way to fix their latest stupid trick of starting a trade war with our second largest customer of ag products.

The "fix" is VOTE OUT THE NRAGOP IN NOVEMBER... before the nincompoops policies and hairbrained egotrips bankrupt everyone in the 99%.

Sunnovagun -  but the real purpose was to allow the farmers to take on debt to pay the Republicans who owned the grain processing corporations - those Republicans always were smart enough to know which end of the business to go into.

Now, when FDR limited production and hurt the farmers again - was that intended to hurt those rich Republicans without regard to what it did to the (we have to assume) Democratic farmers?

Yes, there have been times when the program has been questioned and it probably does need a serious look by the Congress. But, must it too be another "let's beat up on Trump" item?

You mean wealth redistribution is good when the Republicans do it?

LOL....what a dance.....

Yes, it's called the "Deny history so we can dump on Trump tango".

The government has NEVER assisted farmers simply because they were negatively impacted by other government actions.

True - that's why I didn't say that.

You know - when you really do not have an intelligent response, you can always fake a laugh or post Judge Judy.

China has NO Trade Deal with the US on soybeans and their imports rose from $2Billion in 2000 to $14Billion is 2016.

Der Trumper anounces his trade War with China, and China cancels a boodle of contracts to buy US beans, shifting their purchases to MEXICO and South America.

Bean prices IMMEDIATELY fell 20% on Der Trumpers tariff announcement, and are still falling.

US Farmers do NOT have a 20% profit margin on crops, so EVERYBODY growing beans this year will take a tremendeous loss thanks 100% to Donald's stupidity.

Now Der Trumper is diddling the budget to try and buy back support from the farmers his stupidity shafted. I do not think farmers are that dumb - they'll take the money, but trust Donnyboy and the Republicans again? Not a chance.

Wonder who won't get the money Der Trumper is using to try and bribe farmers? How will he try and buy them off?
