Gee, Olderscout66, you even have to prove you are a citizen (or a (5) year legal immigrant) to get health insurance or to enroll in Medicaid.

When the right to vote has stipulation in the Constitution of who has this right to vote  - like being a citizen and being a certain age, then proof of those things isn't taking away any rights - we are only living up to the stipulations.

However, we certainly do need to clean up the process as I said in my last post.

Why do Republicans obsess over lists when the only relivant question is "does this person have a right to vote in a US election?"  In this country, you're innocent until proven guilty, so whoever shows up and says they're eligible should be signed up, issued a voter registration card that's good until death they do depart. Since jrbush's multimillion dollar boondoggle turned up 11 POSSIBLE cases of voter fraud of the sort Republicans are terrified of (one person voting twice, ineliglble people still on the rolls showing up to vote) after checking A BILLION ballots, there is NO danger to the Republic. the danger is that Republicans will expand their voter suppression laws so no poor people can jump the fences to get the ability to exercise their Constitutionally guarenteed RIGHT.

Personally, I think that would be a good idea.  It would help on many fronts, not just voting registration.

You will have to admit that people really don't understand the priority of their voting registration.

They move and don't bother to move it too.

They die and even though there is a process in place to remove the deceased from the voting list, too many states don't bother to perform this step.  Estate Executors should cancel such registration just like they do a person's drivers license or credit cards.

They get married or divorced and don't bother to update their name changes.

I do not believe that there is a current question on the voting registration form that ask if this is the 1st time you have ever registered to vote and if previously registered, where.

States go to enormous time spending hours trying to keep these list up-to-date then people start complaining that they were removed without notice.

Here in my state, the process is long and seems fair but still people don't respond.

1st we send out a postcard stating that there is no record of them voting in the last 2-presidential elections.  We give them a phone number to call to say they are still active with verification of the person and at the same address or they can go to their local election office and update their registration or move it to where they currently reside.

P.O. Returns are either updated with a new address if available, and a follow up postcard is sent but if no such thing, they get removed but only after the next presidential election in case they show up.  So it is 3-presidential election cycles with no activity before they are removed.

We need to treat our voting registration just like our drivers license, once and done - past that, you just need to keep it updated as changes in your life happen.

I would imagine there are people registered in many more than just a couple states where they may reside during the year; even this seems stupid to me since we have absentee voting.  But who knows, we don't have a national list of voters and we, as individuals, aren't legislated to keep even state list updated when life events happen.

But even with some sort of national ID, people would still be required to prove who they are and where they currently reside and even this seems too much of a bother or problem for some folks and I am not just talking about elderly folks. Course if people were required or just issued a voting registration when they become eligible to vote, sooner or later, that would work - then it is up to them to keep it updated because it would be once and done.

As it is now, even proving who you are, takes time, effort and record keeping.  Case in point, a friend of mine has been married (6) times and divorced (5) - a couple of these in other countries.  So to get her Real ID drivers license she had to produce both the marriage and divorce documents from each of them indicating the name changes in sequence. She had them but I bet there are many people who would have trouble.

Got to be a simpler way to keep these list up to date than what we are doing today.

The other draft-dodging preppytwit POTUS, jrbush, tried for 6 years to find voter fraud, and after examining somewhere North of  a BILLION ballots cast in 10 elections, the investigation (costing many millions of tax dollars) thought they might have 11 possible instances of voter fraud by casting multiple ballots.

Not sure how anyone, even a Republican, can look at such information from their own POTUS and continue to aver the existance of vote fraud that requires photo ID's to prevent. But being Republicans, I know they have no problem lying about what they say they believe if they think it will help them gaain and retain political power.

The Hillary Haters destroyed the possibility Gerrymanders and photo ID's would be eliminated as Unconstitutional violations of "one man-one vote" and the right of a citizen to vote, but the problem CAN be fixed simply by getting off their collective tails and VOTING in EVERY election, and doing all they can to make sure all their like-minded friends do the same.Der Trumper won with 46% of 65% of registered voters - that's 30% of registered voters.

So all those who didn't vote because you didn't think a Trump victory was possible or because you didn't like him, but had believed all the decade of Republican slander against Hillary, just VOTE for the Progressive one in 2018 and we'll have a Congress that will save you from Der Trumper and may even impeach and remove the **bleep**ic man-child while there's still an America left to save.

Which brings us full circle and back to Kansas to a really good vacuum salesman.    Like all con artists, one must pay attention to words.    The word used most by GOP was "alleged".   Weirdly, the cases of actual voter fraud are rare.

Those here defending the voter fraud nonsense keep telling us that Donald voters are not stupid or to use the current terms:  LO-FO's.     But if they aren't lo-fo's then what explains their ignorance about voter fraud?

A man in Texas who voted twice. Phillip Cook was arrested on Election Day after voting twice. He claimed to be an employee of Trump's campaign who was testing the security of the electoral system. He wasn't an employee of the campaign — and the polling location's security worked perfectly well, it seems.

A woman who cast a ballot on behalf of her dead husband. Audrey Cook is a Republican election judge in Illinois. She and her husband applied for absentee ballots because he was ill. He died before completing his, so she filled it out for him and sent it in. The ballot will not be counted.

A woman in Florida who marked absentee ballots. Gladys Coego was hired to open absentee ballots in Miami-Dade County. One of her co-workers noticed that she was going a step further, filling in the bubble for a mayoral candidate with a pen she had in her purse. She was caught in the act and arrested. There's no evidence that she changed any presidential votes.

A Des Moines woman has been arrested on suspicion of voting twice this month in the general election, police and court records show.

Terri Lynn Rote, 55, was booked into the Polk County Jail about 3:40 p.m. Thursday on a first-degree election misconduct charge, which is a Class D felony.

Rote, a registered Republican, reportedly cast an early voting ballot at the Polk County Election Office, 120 Second Ave., and another ballot at a county satellite voting location in Des Moines, according to a Des Moines police report.

Rote was one of three voter fraud suspects reported to police Wednesday by the Polk County Auditor's Office.

It's the first time in 12 years that Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald can remember ever having to report potential voter fraud, he said Thursday morning.

The other two suspects are accused of casting mail-in ballots and also voting in person, according to police reports. As of Friday morning, neither of those suspects had been arrested.

The case is under investigation by Des Moines police.

"I think it shows that our voting system works in Iowa, that we're able to catch it," Fitzgerald said.

"Tensions are running high on both sides" as Election Day approaches, the county auditor said, but the cases of double voting could also have been simple mistakes. "That's not for me to decide," he said.

Rote was held in jail on a $5,000 bond, but she had been released as of Friday afternoon. Her next court appearance was scheduled for Nov. 7, court records show.

Early voting in Polk County started Sept. 29. Election Day is Nov. 8.

Terri Rote plans to caucus tonight for @realDonaldTrump down on the east side of Des Moines

Rote and Trump were made for each other.

There was a really good take away from that interview:   A national Voter ID.    That would eliminate all the screaming by idiots of voter fraud.    States couldn't skrew with it, they couldn't use the Cross-check mechanism to disenfranchise voters ( multiple people with same first and last name, but different SSN and middle name and address).

The hypocrisy / ignorance of Donald is that he doesn't seem to comprehend that being registered in various states is not illegal.

Thus far, I have only read of one person who voted twice and it was a Donald voter who believed his rhetoric - so she voted twice.    Yes, a low-information voter  - pathetic.

Way to go Hillary Haters.  Well, the deck was stacked against her.....the media saying it was going to be a blow-out, the FBI conspiracy and Russia's assistance.  Not many could overcome those challenges, especially a flawed candidate.
