Trump is always ahead of the game. Fire up the Coal and dredge for Gold and Diamonds in the World's largest Salmon spawning river in Alaska. Who cares If it kills us and the Alaskan Salmon.

CNN: US-China Trade War: Why the US would never win a trade war with China.

Quote: The United States has legitimate issues with China — valid concerns about access to markets and intellectual property violations. However, it should pursue them with the World Trade Organization, not through tariffs. Using tariffs only opens it up to retaliation from China. And China has a large arsenal of weapons, beyond tariffs, that it can use against the United States. Following are just a few of these potential weapons. [my comments]

  1. Counter the drop in foreign purchases of Chinese goods through increased domestic spending (which China is currently doing). The US executive branch cannot execute similar stimulus without a spending bill approved by Congress. [reports of this happening already]
  2. Depreciate the yuan to lower the price of Chinese goods to American buyers in order to counter the impact of tariffs. [ common practice US presidents have complained about]
  3. Stop the purchase of treasuries and/or sell existing holdings of treasuries, at a time when the US government is issuing more debt and the Federal Reserve is normalizing its balance sheet by selling US debt. The net effect would be an increase in borrowing costs for the US government, all else being equal. [Some selling US debt has been reported.]
  4. Create closer trading relationships with other countries to isolate and exclude the United States (for example, China cut auto tariffs for US allies). [Russia and China now working more closely is also a recent report.]
  5. Encourage North Korea to antagonize the United States, given that improved relations with North Korea has been an important goal of President Donald Trump's. [Does Kim really want a deal or is it just a song and dance for the next two years?]
  6. Execute a regulatory crackdown on American companies (environmental or anti-monopoly investigations, for example). [Now this would be extraordinary.]
  7. Place an embargo on the sale of rare earth metals to American companies and the US government (this is a necessary material for many smart phones and US missile defense systems). [That would be extreme.]

and that technology by electrolux would have to be sacrificed to the Chinese who would then flood the market with poorly made products with low paid labor.

No one denies technology replaces certain manufacturing and agricultural jobs. We agree, what we do not agree on (apparently) is China is a economic manipulator whose business practices are like locusts consuming everything and everyone in their path.

Previous administrations... all of them were not willing to fight this battle or shall I say ''return fire". The United States did not "start" this war, but we're **bleep** well gonna end it.

Pay close attention to the impending US-China agreement.

The problem with Trumpublicans is that they are still thinking of manufacturing as it was in the 20th century. Time to wake up people. Technology has changed all of that. Here's one recent example. Electrolux is closing a plant in Memphis in order to upgrade another plant in Springfield. Hence:

Electrolux, which owns Frigidaire, said in a press release that it is rethinking its strategy "in light of changing market dynamics, increased raw material costs and current trade policy."

"The investment will go toward modernizing the plant with automation and expanding production," Hale said. "This is not about job growth."

The tariff trade war with China will not solve this problem.

No, full employment is a great for our economy. But you can't brag about America enjoying FULL EMPLOYMENT and simultaneously say, we need to impose tariffs on China to protect American jobs. Duh! Protect what jobs? We're at FULL employment.

Unfortunately the logic utilized above is far too complex for Trump Cult members, who don't get it. In addition, since they're cult members, it's impossible for them to criticize their Supreme Leader in the White House.

I don't know who those Cult members you refer to are but this rational person is fully able to understand and is willing to share his wisdom.

The economy is a fluid entity effected by many factors. The government cannot decree it's health but it can establish circumstances that contribute to it's health - favorable tariff situations for example.

Employment is dependent on the economy, so government establishing healthy conditions contributes to healthy employment numbers going forward.

In a burning building, no thinking is required.

On complex economic issues, thinking is required. If one is locked into the Trump Alternate Reality bubble, their situation is ..............

Fishslayer777 and Not Happening are permanent residents of the Trump alernate reality bubble. In order to evacuate, one must know how to think. Therefore, it appears as if they're permanently locked into the alternate view of reality.

There's no doubt that China has stolen technology from the U.S. Unless someone lost their mind, they could not possibly deny that it is true. But the solution to that problem is not blindly submitting to Trump's idiotic trade wars, started by imposing tariffs. Almost every economic expert will explain why tariffs are counter productive and never work. In order to understand that concept, it requires objective thinking and an understanding of history, which eliminates Trump Cult members.

U.S. Unemployment Rate Drops To 3.7 Percent, Lowest In Nearly 50 Years

Comrade Trump is under the false illusion that tariffs will protect American jobs. "The Trump administration says the tariffs are about protecting American innovation and jobs. "

Trump: "Our Steel and Aluminum industries (and many others) have been decimated by decades of unfair trade and bad policy with countries from around the world. We must not let our country, companies and workers be taken advantage of any longer."

Trump said, "his planned tariffs on Chinese imports would make the United States "a much stronger, much richer nation"

On April 4, 2018, President Trump responded to speculation tweeting: "We are not in a trade war with China, that war was lost many years ago by the foolish, or incompetent, people who represented the U.S.
