Ontario Teen Creates 'Made in Canada' Database in Response to Trump Tariffs
July 23, 2018
An Ontario teen has created a website compiling a list of Canadian products – from clothing to instruments to electronics – for those who want hit back at the Trump administration’s tariffs with their wallets.
“My dad, my uncle and I were all together for my uncle’s birthday party,” Campbell told CTV’s Your Morning. “We realized that we want to buy Canadian and we want to support Canadian businesses, but there’s not really an easy way to find out what is actually Canadian, so we figured why not just make it ourselves?”

The website’s database includes 234 “Canadian choices” across 18 categories such as furniture, toys, health and fitness, pet products and food. Each product’s listing includes details about where in Canada it is manufactured, where in Canada it is sold and whether it is Canadian-owned.
Campbell told CTV’s Your Morning that the response to his database has been “overwhelmingly positive” and that he often receives suggestions of products to add to this list from fellow Canadians.

Trump's Trade War - - Why Are Businesses Planning Layoffs?

The latest edition of the Business Roundtable DEO Economic Outlook survey,  a quarterly poll of major US CEOs, showed slipping confidence. The Economic Outlook index slipped to 111.1 for the second quarter, down from a record high of 118.6 in the first quarter that was buoyed by the implementation of the GOP tax reform bill.

Joshua Bolten, president and CEO of Business Roundtable, said the drawdown was a result of Trump's belligerent trade policy.  "We continue to see strong CEO plans in the second quarter of 2018, but uncertainties about trade policy are a growing weight on economic progress - especially amid escalating trade tensions," Bolten said in a release.

Of the CEOs that responded to the trade-related questions in the survey, an overwhelming number said the tariffs represented a danger to the economy:

  • 95% said "foreign trade retaliation leading to lower US exports" is a moderate or serious risk to the US economy.
  • 91% said "higher costs of imports for U.S. consumers" is a risk.
  • 90% said "higher input costs for U.S. businesses" was a risk.
  • 89% said ""lower U.S. economic growth" was a risk.

Hope you are read the story in todays paper about what is happening in the Steel industry. Prices of Steel produced in the US have gone up about 40% this year due to the Trump tariffs. No US steel makers do not pay Tariffs, but they are increasing their prices due to less competition, and that means they make more profit. This will make sure any increases in taxes to them by the Fed. are offset.

Here is also what is happening on infrastructure projects that use steel like bridges. Keep in mind the contracts for this type of project which the Feds help pay for has a clause in it that all steel must be American made for years now. They will all cost a lot more and that means more tax dollars are needed at the Fed., State, Local level to cover the 40% cost hike. Some are being postponed. One private rail bridge at St. Louis over the river replacement might be cancelled. The bridge will then be closed as it is in such bad condition. That means rail movement of freight will be hurt, and rates will go up to get the money to fix the bridge. We will all pay for that. Trump in action.

Trump's Tariffs Are Causing Cascading Layoffs in Missouri

The Mid Continent Nail Corporation of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and the SEMO Box Company of Cape Girardeau County, Misouri have done business together for more than 25 years, but soon their shared history might be wiped out.

Tariffs on steel goods caused the company to lose 50 percent of its business in two weeks and forced the factory to lay off 60 temporary workers. Newsweek reports that the business may be forced to cut 200 additional jobs by the end of next month.

Donald Trump won 56.4 percent of the vote in Missouri, with Hillary Clinton taking just under 38 percent.

In Cape Girardeau County, Trump's percentage of the vote grew to 72 percent; in Butler County, which includes Poplar Bluff and the Mid Continent factory, he won support from 79.1 percent of voters.

But of course that is reality and trump supporters will never admit it.

John wrote in part, "The Reb. will want to cut SS, Medi Care, Medicaid, Foodstamps, and every other program that helps people as we have to pay the debt. All of this  with a starting cause of the so called Trump Tax cuts, and then his increase in spending. "

All top economists, Republicans with enough patriotism to stand up to trump, Wall Street, business experts and Corporate America as a whole say the tariffs are a mistake. All indicators say that this is true. Yet trump supporters blindly follow trump and his insane thinking about tariffs.

I hope all saw the National Debt story this evening. It is now out of control, and in a short period of time will exceed anything we have ever had. Trump is increasing it faster than ever before in our history. The tell us the interest payments alone will eat up most of the taxes collected. China now owns more of our debt than any other country. Here will be the next step as I see it. The Reb. will want to cut SS, Medi Care, Medicaid, Foodstamps, and every other program that helps people as we have to pay the debt. All of this  with a starting cause of the so called Trump Tax cuts, and then his increase in spending. Not included in what came out tonight is what the Tariff war he started will do, Are you all ready for the poor house as say good by to  your standard of living. Our enablers can explain this to us from their new homes on the street, and yes we will be there with them. We can burn trash from the dumster at night while they tell us stories.
