Makes sense. A wall in any form is still a wall. Ineffective, expensive, and only on the table because Trump used it to whip up the base.  Trump tried to use immigration in general as a weapon in the 2018 election and the voters voted against him in droves. Why should Pelosi go against the wishes of the people who voted in a huge change in her favor?

I was wondering why he was wasting everyone's time in the first place.

He could not properly make assumptions over the Dem's refusal to attempt a compromise so he made the effort.

Total capitulation is not compromising. Trump has no plan or desire to compromise.

What has Trump offered in way of compromise?

No, he's a moron and plays to the ignorance of his base.  He's a bully and is unable to negotiate effectively, so he plays the bully card, which is exactly what he's doing.  He lied about having Mexico pay for the wall and he still is and only ignorant people buy it.

Now, an intelligent President, one who actually cares about "people" other than most of his bigoted base, he would have included border security in the trade agreement with Mexico.  He would have required them to address their issue on their southern border AND their northern border.  The US could offer to pay them millions in aid to secure their borders and penalize them based on the numbers getting through their borders.

He could engage the other Central American countries as well, offering aid to address their issues and penalize them for those who leave heading north.  He could give US countries tax breaks for setting up shop in Central America and then use 21st century technology to do the rest.  Are you suggesting the most advanced country in the world needs a cement wall or metal spiked barrier to protect a border.  LMAO!!!!

It takes a "dealmaker", a GREAT American and honest individual....none of which trump is.....but his base couldn't think outside of a box if it had no sides and just one wall.

There is no humanitarian crises....that's bovine feces.  When has trump EVER been concerned about non-whites?  Puerto Rico?  The Central Park 5?  The only people who believe there is a humanitarian crises are those who are worried about the trash and germs.  We have had the fewest people come across the border in decades.....and now we're having a humanitarian crises?   Only in the minds of his low information base who think the Dems are to blame.

But thanks for asking.....

Maybe he should have taken a previous deal that had 26 billion in it. Trump wanting to grandstand is what is creating this so called "crises". His leadership skills are so poor he couldnt get this solved when his party had majorities in the legislature.

So it begins.

Trump has a history of using a Walk-out when not getting his way

Yesterday, Donald called House and Senate leaders to the WH to discuss the partial shutdown and negotiations regarding the donald wall.     He asked Speaker Pelosi a question, she said NO and he walked out and tweeted Bye Bye.     Oh my, that is childish on many levels and we do know that Donald doesn't like being told NO, as he has attacked numerous individuals when they have dared to challenge him.

The majority of people in the US understand that this was a gimmick to try and make the opposition cave.    How do we know?   He has done this before, aka Old Dog, Old Trick.   It is part of his 'art of the deal".   https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-01-10/for-trump-storming-out-of-a-meeting-is-a-signatur...

What Donald seems not to comprehend is that Speaker Pelosi runs the House and he has no real power over her and nothing to lose by saying NO.    With public sentiment turning against him and GOP candidates  perhaps even his bff's in the WH may reconsider his inability to "deal".

Republican Senator's are now awakened to a new reality.    Using the National Emergency Act gambit will set the stage for any President to do this - Climate Change?   Universal Health care?    both could easily qualify as national emergencies.
