Other than Trump Cult members, who do NOT put America first, is anyone else surprised by Trump's actions?

I guess the benefit is WE don't have to watch videos of Der Trumper's golden shower.

On a realistic note, Putin is right - the World cannot tolerate ANOTHER "regime change" that hands a broken Nation over to fundamentalist nutjobs. So Vlad is going to prevent Assad from being overthrown by fundamentalist nutjobs WITHOUT totally destroying the country in the process.
Significantly better policy than jrbush lied us into. Remember Saddam gassed a couple hundred Kurds, jr slaughtered upwards of 100,000 civilians. Who's the murderous tyrant?

And what are those benefits?  Trump being elected President with Russian help while Russia gets Syria in return?

Trump said some time ago that a relationship with Russia would be a benefit: having an allience with such a powerful nation would be profitable, I have no doubt. But Trump is more implicated in an affair with Russia than he claims. It is interesting to try to guess whether Trump will 'sanction' Russia in any way after all that happened with Syria. He won't take the risk of making an enemy out of his 'friend', Putin, so I guess he will try, as well a he can, to maintain a good relationship with Russia. Nevertheless, this doesn't seem to stop him from accusing Russia of supporting the Syrian government.

That's for exactly the same reason that he didn't sign the bill congress sent to him - he's certain that if he did enact any sanctions, that would cause Putin to be somewhat upset with him, and he would suffer the consequences...

President Donald Trump has reportedly decided to halt the roll-out of sanctions against Russia for its support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, contradicting a top diplomat's claims that the sanctions would be announced on Monday.

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said this weekend that the US would roll out the new sanctions as part of its plan to send a "strong message" about the Assad regime's alleged use of chemical weapons.

On Monday morning, however, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the administration was still considering such a move, and that the decision would be made "in the near future".

The announcement came after Mr Trump told national security advisers he was uncomfortable carrying out the planned sanctions, according to the Washington Post. Administration officials told the Post it was unlikely Mr Trump would approve the sanctions without another "triggering event" by Russia.

We would have been about as well off electing Putin, the puppetmaster, instead of the puppet !!!!
